New Zealand beat South Africa in Rugby Championship




The fourth round of the 2016 Rugby Championship starts in Christchurch where New Zealand’s All Blacks host South Africa’s Springboks.

The anthems have been sung. The All Blacks have done the Haka – Kapa ‘o Pango.

Beauden Barrett kicks off and the match is underway.

2.00: The All Blacks win the ball back after the kick off. They press South Africa back into their 22. South Africa turn the ball over and a kicking contest follows with South Africa putting the ball into touch near the half way line.

3.00: All Blacks win the line out and run at South Africa testing their defence. They chip the ball to the corner and Johan Goosen gets trapped on the 5m line but South Africa win a penalty for not releasing. The Springboks kick for touch.

4.00: South Africa win the line out and try to run it out of their 22. There is however a knock on so the All Blacks have a scrum inside SA’s 22.

5.00; Free kick to SA from the first scrum of the match. SA kick upfield. All Blacks win the line out but the whistle goes after some attacking running from Barrett.

6.00: Penalty to New Zealand. Barrett kicks to the corner.

7.00: New Zealand win the line out and attack South Africa on their 5m line with the advantage. They are called back for the penalty. They will have a shot at the posts.

9.00: Barrett takes the shot and just squeaks it in. All Blacks lead.

11.00: The All Blacks win their scrum and kick downfield. Goosen gets back and kicks the ball direct into touch.

13.00: South Africa win the line out and the ball is taken into touch on the All Black 22. South Africa win the line out and attack inside the All Black 22.

14.00: There is a misunderstanding in the Bok backline and the ball is knocked on as they go wide. All Black scrum.

17.00: South Africa win the ball from the line out. They attack and find space through the middle and then go wide. The Boks attack in the All Black 22. Five phases and on the 7th they get to the 5m line. SA have the advantage and Whiteley passes the ball to Habana who hits the line at pace and slips through to score. TRY!

19.00: Jantjies adds the conversion and South Africa lead.

20.00: From the restart Jantjies goes to catch the ball and knocks it on – 8m out. All Black scrum.

21.00: The All Blacks win the scrum, get the ball to the 5m line and pass the ball down the line and Israel Dagg goes over to score without anyone being near him for at least 5m. Easy try.

22.00: Barrett misses the conversion. All Blacks lead.

27.00: The All Blacks work the ball into South Africa’s half. They win the ball from a scrum and attack the Boks. Dane Coles offloads to Julian Savea who bumps off Habana and scores. The TMO confirms. TRY!

28.00: Barrett takes the conversion kick from out wide. He nails it.

29.00: South Africa win the line out after the restart. They kick the ball upfield and Ben Smith gets back and boots it back and it goes into touch.

31.00: South Africa win the line out and attack again down the middle. Pieter-Steph du Toit makes ground but then Ardie Savea turns the ball over. The ball goes into touch.

32.00: All Blacks win the line out, the ball is slowed and Smith uses the box kick. Dagg chases and regains the ball. The All Blacks continue the attack and get the ball into the Bok 22. The Springboks knock the ball on. The TMO is called in for a potential neck roll by Sam Whitelock. Penalty only as it was not bad.

33.00: Jantjies kicks for touch and the line out. SA win the line out and run at the All Blacks in their 22.

34.00: 10 phases on attack. The All Blacks hold strong. The All Blacks turn the ball over but then they are called back for offside.

36.00: Jantjies slots the penalty.

37.00: The All Blacks go deep with the kick off. SA get back and kick upfield. The All Blacks counter attack and Jerome Kaino bashes through, he recycels and the the ball gets to Ben Smith who almost gets through. South Africa turn the ball over and win the scrum put in. Try saver.

38.00: South Africa win the scrum and Goosen kicks upfield. He fails to find touch so the All Blacks counter. They run and then Ardie Savea kicks and the ball is knocked on and goes into touch. SA scrum.

40.00: South Africa put the ball into the scrum. They win the scrum and put the ball straight into touch.

It’s half time.

40.01: Elton Jantjies makes an error with the restart so the All Blacks have a scrum on the half way line.

42.00: The All Blacks win the scrum but then Ardie Savea concedes a penalty so South Africa clear the ball into touch.

43.00: Adriaan Strauss comes off due to a leg injury. Malcolm Marx comes on. The All Blacks win a line out and use the box kick. Jantjies chips the ball back and the All Blacks counter.

45.00: SA win the first line out on Marx’s throw. They run the ball but then knock on.

46.00: The All Blacks begin their attack after South Africa kick deep to them.

48.00: The All Blacks press South Africa back in their 22 and after several phases Ben Smith scores. TRY!

49.00: Barrett adds the conversion.

50.00: Damien de Allende comes on for Johan Goosen.

52.00: Jerome Kaino has to come off due to injury so Matt Todd comes on as South Africa are given a penalty. Jantjies takes the kick and nails it.

56.00: The All Blacks go on the attack from the half way line. They go through five phases and Aaron Smith offloads to Ardie Savea who scores. TRY!

57.00: Barrett takes the conversion kick and nails it. 16 point lead.

The All Blacks look to attack out wide but the pass goes well forward and then into touch. Springbok line out.

59.00: South Africa win the line out after Morne Steyn comes on for Jantjies. The Boks move the ball wide and attack with pace.

61.00: South Africa playing at pace and full of attack but the All Blacks are holding strong. The Boks knock on near the half way line. Steph du Toit comes off and Franco Mostert comes on.

63.00: Free kick to the All Blacks, Barrett kicks to the corner. TJ Perenara is on for Aaron Smith.

64.00: The All Blacks win the line out and they go wide. The suck all of the Boks outwide and then come back in and Coles passes a long one to Sam Whitelock who scores in the corner. TRY! Special mention for Dane Coles who has shown incredible skills throughout this match.

65.00: Barrett misses the conversion.

67.00: The All Blacks go through five phases and TJ Perenara snipes in the corner. The TMO is called in for a possible try. The ball bounced off Mostert and Perenara pounced as it touched the line. No try but a 5m scrum for the All Blacks.

70.00: Scrum problems and resets have started. The scrum is reset several times and then Perenara snipes off the back of the scrum and scores. TRY!

71.00: Barrett adds the conversion.

73.00: South Africa win a scrum and attack the All Blacks but they are struggling to make much ground.

75.00: The Boks win a line out about 10m out. They try to use the maul and then go wide and win a penalty. Steyn kicks for touch and the line out.

76.00: Marx overthrows the line out and there is a knock on. SA ball.

77.00: All Blacks win a penalty as they dismantle the Bok scrum. Sopoaga kicks for touch.

79.00: The ball is knocked on again after the line out. SA scrum. They win the scrum and run the ball. The All Blacks turn the ball over.

80.00: The siren sounds as the All Blacks continue the attack. They chip ahead and SA get back but lose the ball forward.

Thats it. All Blacks have won.
