Cape Town is currently suffering from massive power failures and to keep the electricity flow up as much as possible the authorities are implementing rolling blackouts.

Fans concerned about the Super 14 matches need not worrry as Newlands Stadium, the host venue for Friday’s Vodacom Stormers vs Brumbies fixture, is equipped to handle potential power outages.

“Given recent guarantees in the unlikely event of a power cut, the game will go ahead,” said MD WP Rugby (Pty) Ltd Rob Wagner.

“Newlands Rugby Stadium has emergency generators that click in immediately a power outage occurs. Whilst the main floodlights will go down temporarily, emergency lighting will be retained in crucial areas of the stadium.

Two further generators will also kick in to power up the main floodlights again, allowing for the game to continue after a brief break.

The generators are a standard feature at all big games and have not been specially arranged for this weekend.”

“Supporters need not be concerned that the game will be abandoned in the case of a blackout,” added Rob Wagner.
