Blues coach David Nucifora says several factors were taken into account in selecting the team to play the Sharks – player management; heading off shore next week and consistent performances on-field.

“I have been impressed with players consistently stepping up and delivering from week to week. The men are working hard for their jerseys and that is a good place to be at this stage of the competition.

“Match hardened players are crucial for a game as important as this one and maintaining a strong bench for some fire power at the back end of the game continues to be a key element for us,” says Nucifora.

With the South African trip only days away, Nucifora is mindful of managing his travelling team.

“Travel time, recovery and strengths of our opponents all need to be factored into decisions made for team selection both now and in the weeks to come. If the true quality of a side is revealed when on tour, then managing individuals carefully over the next few weeks is even more crucial.”

On the injury front, Saimone Taumoepeau remains affected by his calf injury ; Luke McAlister is off limits after surgery on his cheek and a minor twinge at training to Anthony Tuitavake’s previously injured hamstring has put him out of contention for the Sharks match.
