Sharks utility back Joe Pietersen will leave Durban and play in Japan for the Kamiashi Seawaves after the current Super Rugby season.

According to SuperSport Pietersen will join Lions flanker Warwick Tecklenburg at the Japanese second division club who are attempting to gain promotion into the J-League.

Tecklenburg was with the Japanese club last season and has committed to the club for another season.

Both players were named on the Kamiashi Seawaves website on Wednesday for the upcoming season.

Pietersen’s current Super Rugby deal with the Sharks is understood to be for this season alone and negotiations are said to be underway for next season.
