Lock Grant le Roux, the Potchefstroom University Player of the Year for 2008, has joined the Boland and will report for duty on Monday.

Le Roux, a stalwart in the Pukke rugby side for the past four seasons, will be available for the Wine Farmers for next weekend’s game against the Elephants. Le Roux is one of a few new acquisitions in the Boland team.

He joins up with former Griquas captain Jané du Toit, who will be on the bench when the Boland meet the Eagles in Bredasdorp on Friday.

Le Roux has achieved everything at the Puk, playing in two Varsity Cups, winning three Intervarsity’s against Shimlas, winning the National Club Championships twice and the Pirates Grand Challenge a couple of times.

A Provincial contract was the logical step for Le Roux, who has joined the Boland untill the end of next season. The former Lions sharp-shooter Mark Harris, will also be on the bench for the Eagles match.

He has proved himself as a goal-kicker with BMT and should keep Justin Peach on his toes.

Former Valke wings, Ernie Kruger and Luvo Sogidashe, will start for the Boland against the Eagles, with veteran Dewey Swartbooi in midfield.

Le Roux will compete with locks Frikkie Spies, Rito Hlungwani and Nico Esterhuizen for a starting berth.
