The Bulls, Super 14 defending champions, had another injury setback on Monday when Springbok hooker Chiliboy Ralepelle injured his knee during training at Loftus.

Team doctor Tommy Smook on Tuesday confirmed that Ralepelle had stretched his medial ligaments and will probably miss the Bulls warm-up matches.

Ralepelle has been sidelined since early last season. His unavailability for probably all the warm-up matches makes him the fifth Springbok who will have no match exposure before he plays his first rugby in this year’s Super 14 competition.

The other four are Bakkies Botha, Danie Rossouw, Akona Ndungane and Gurthro Steenkamp, who were all at the World Cup.

The Bulls meet the Falcons in Brakpan on Thursday for their first friendly and they play against the Boland Kavaliers in Wellington on Saturday. The following week the Bulls will play two matches against the Lions.

The first is scheduled for Thursday January 31 at Wits and will probably see most of the second-stringers do battle.

The second match will be played in Windhoek on 2 February.

The Bulls warm-up matches are:
24 January, 18:00: Bulls vs. Falcons (Brakpan)
26 January, 17:00: Bulls vs. Boland (Wellington)
31 January, 18:00: Bulls vs. Lions (Wits)
2 February, 17:00: Bulls vs. Lions (Windhoek).
