Stormers beat Rebels in Melbourne




Super Rugby moves across the Tasman from New Zealand to Melbourne where the Rebels host South Africa’s Stormers.

The Rebels have made a number of late changes for this match as a result of Mike Harris withdrawing.

Jean-Luc du Plessis kicks off and the match is underway.

1.00: The Stormers show plenty of intent early on and they win a penalty in front of the posts. Du Plessis will kick for posts.

2.00: Du Plessis slots the penalty and nails it. Stormers lead.

4.00: Penalty to the Rebels. Jack Debreczeni takes the kick but misses.

6.00: The Rebels have the ball inside the Stormers half. They go through 8 phases and get into the Stormers 22. On the 9th phase they get pushed back out.

7.00: The Stormers defence holds the Rebels out and the Stormers kick the ball into touch.

8.00: The Rebels win the line out and quickly move the ball to the far side and Sefa Naivalu scores in the corner.

9.00: Debreczeni adds the conversion. Rebels lead.

11.00: Penalty to the Stormers in front.

12.00: Du Plessis takes the kick from the side. He nails it.

14.00: The Rebels string together 13 phases but get pushed back as they go. 15 phases ans still the Rebels go at the Stormers. Debreczeni kicks for touch and sets up a line out in the Stormers 22. Eben Etzebeth gets a talking to by the referee. Pieter-Steph du Toit goes off for a concussion test.

15.00: The Stormers win the line out and Du Plessis kicks for touch. The Rebels begin their counter attack.

16.00: The Rebels form a maul and Ben Meehan breaks off and races to the corner and scores. The TMO will check. The TRY is awarded.

17.00: Debreczeni adds the conversion.

19.00: The Stormers chip the ball ahead. The Rebels jump for it but miss it and  Jean-Luc du Plessis grabs the ball and scores. TRY!

20.00:  Du Plessis takes the conversion kick and nails it. Stormers trail by one.

22.00: Lopeti Timani comes off for a concussion test. Culum Retallick is on.

24.00: The Stormers work the ball into the Rebels 22. They go through a couple of phases and then knock on.

26.00: The Stormers scrum smashes through the Rebels scrum which wins them a penalty. The pitch is holding up well. Very well. Du Plessis will kick for posts.

27.00: Du Plessis takes the kick and nails it. Stormers lead.

29.00: The Rebels mess up the restart so there is a scrum on the half way line. It collapses. Timani has failed the concussion test,

31.00: The Stormers win the scrum and kick for touch. The Rebels put the ball in at the line out but the Stormers come away with it.

33.00: The Stormers put the Rebels under pressure by going through 10 phases in front of the posts. Vincent Koch charges for the line. Sean McMahon complains that the ref blocked him from tackling Koch but the TRY is awarded.

34.00: Du Plessis adds the conversion.

35.00: Nizaam Carr has been replaced by Sikhumbuzo Notshe. The Rebels are awarded a penalty following a line out. Debreczeni will go for posts.

37.00: Debreczeni slots the penalty.

38.00: The Stormers make a mess of the restart and are called back. Eben Etzebeth and Sean McMahon erupt into some pushing and shoving. It dies down. The Stormers win another scrum on the Rebels put in.

39.00: The Stormers run the ball but then knock on. Etzebeth is involved in another dust up which again dies down. The Rebels put the ball into the scrum as the siren sounds. They win the ball back and put it into touch to end the half.

The second half is underway.

The Rebels go through the phases in the Stormers 22. The Stormer defence holds them out though.

43.00: The ball is kicked behind the Rebels and Leolin Zas chases but conceded a penalty. Debreczeni clears the ball into touch.

45.00: The TMO is called in for potential foul play. There is a neck roll by Kobus van Wyk so the Rebels have a penalty overturned. No cards. They kick for touch and the line out.

45.00: Sefa Naivalu is tackled as he goes for the corner.The Stormers try to push him into touch. The TMO is called in to review the try. He is ruled to have been in touch.No try.

49.00: The Rebels get the ball back into the Stormers 22. They go through 5 phases but the Stormers hold them out. The Rebels continue to attack.

51.00: 13 phases and the Rebels continue to attack. 15 phases and Jonah Placid goes for the corner. The TMO is called in. It’s a TRY!  Placid is still down though.

52.00: Debreczeni takes the conversion kick and he nails it. Rebels lead. Placid has not recovered and Paul Asquith is on.

53.00: Penalty in front to the Stormers. Du Plessis will take the shot. He nails it and the Stormers lead again.

55.00: Eben Etzebeth steals a line out and scores. TRY!

56.00: Du Plessis lines up the posts but misses.

57.00: The Rebels hit back as Tom English slices through. He offloads to Debreczeni who scores. TRY!

58.00: Debreczeni adds the conversion. Scores are level.

61.00; Scott Fuglistaller is yellow carded for bringing down the maul. Rebels down to 14.

63.00: The Stormers get the ball in space with the try line ahead by Du Plessis loses it. The Stormers do however get the scrum put in.

65.00: The Stormers win the scrum and Nic Groom slices through and scores. TRY! Du Plessis misses the conversion.

67.00: Sikhumbuzo Notshe gets the Stormers into space and offloads to Damien de Allende who scores. TRY!

68.00: Du Plessis adds the conversion from in front.

72.00: The Rebels are all over the Stormers in their 22. They get a penalty and take it quickly. The Stormers defence holds them out and the Jordy Reid loses the ball so the Stormers boot it well down field.

74.00: Leolin Zas gets an intercept pass and races away to score for the Stormers. That must be the ball game.

75.00: Du Plessis adds the conversion.

78.00: The Stormers get a penalty and they go for the corner.

80.00: The Stormers win the line out and drive over the line and  Scarra Ntubeni scores the bonus point TRY!

81.00: Du Plessis takes the conversion kick – he nails it.
