Reds beat Cheetahs in Brisbane




Last week the Reds were well beaten by the Waratahs in Sydney and as they are at home this week for the first time this year they can be expected to perform significantly better.

We are waiting for the kick off.

The Cheetahs kick off and we are underway.

1.34: The Reds make a strong start as Quade Cooper finds Rod Davies with one of his passes and Davies races away, he gets caught and passes to Chris Feauai-Sautia who scores – sort of. Feauai-Sautia would have scored had Rayno Benjamin not kicked the ball away so he is yellow carded and a penalty try is awarded.

2.00: Quade Cooper slots the conversion.

3.00: The Cheetahs hit straight back. Goosen enjoys a break and passes to Willie le Roux, he is caught but the Cheetahs keep the ball alive and Shaun Venter scores. TRY!  

5.00: Goosen slots the conversion and the scores are level. What a start.

8.00: The Cheetahs are awarded a penalty so they kick for touch. The kick is sliced by Goosen so they only make about 14m. The line out is a mess as well so the Reds get the put in at the resulting scrum.  

9.00: The Reds win the scrum and run the ball but as they pass the ball down the line Boom Prinsloo intercepts and races away to score. TRY!

10.00: Goosen slots the conversion from in front. With a man down the Cheetahs have scored two tries.

11.00: The Reds hit back too as Rod Davies gets the ball on the wing and races for the line, Davies leaves everyone standing and scores a TRY in the corner.

12.00: Cooper takes the conversion from out wide and it just goes in. The scores are level again. The Cheetahs are back to 15 players.

14.00: Penalty to the Cheetahs on the half way line. Goosen takes the kick and misses. The Reds kick the ball out from the 22 drop out.

16.00: The Cheetahs are full of attack. They almost get in for another try but they knock on.

17.00: The Reds win a penalty from the scrum for driving up. The Reds kick for touch.

19.00: The Reds get the ball into the corner but they end up losing the ball and the Cheetahs get the ball back upfield to safety.

20.00: The Cheetahs win a penalty outside the Cheetahs 22 but near the middle. Quade Cooper will kick for posts.

21.00: Cooper takes the shot from about 30m out and he nails it. The Reds lead.

23.00: The Cheetahs have the ball inside the Reds half. They go through several phases but the Reds turn the ball over. They attack and go through a couple of phases but then they knock on.

25.00: Penalty to the Cheetahs. it’s about 41m out. Goosen takes the shot and nails it. The scores are level.

28.00: Penalty again to the Cheetahs. Eddie Quirk gets a boot to the face and has to come off for blood.

29.00:Goosen takes the shot and misses.

31.00: The Reds have the ball and go through the phases in the Cheetahs 22. As they can’t get through we go back for a penalty as the ref was playing advantage. Cooper will kick for posts.

33.00: Cooper misses the penalty. Wide.

34.00: The Reds try to attack after the restart but Aidan Toua is just caught and he loses the ball. The Reds keep the ball alive and work the ball back into the Cheetahs 22. They win a penalty for hands in the ruck and they take it quickly. Chris Feauai-Sautia goes over in the corner. We go to the TMO to check the grounding. It’s a TRY!

35.00: Cooper takes the conversion and again he misses.

38.00: Penalty to the Cheetahs. Goosen takes the kick and nails it.

40.00: the siren sounds for half time but the Reds keep the all alive. They pass the ball through the hands and Cooper goes too wide. James Hanson has to chase the ball but gathers it and runs for the line to score the Reds BONUS point TRY!

41.00: Cooper takes the conversion kick and nail it. It’s half time.

The Reds kick off and we are underway for the second half.

43.00: The Reds enjoy an early break down the wing but they are called back for a knock on. The Cheetahs have a scrum on the half way line.

44.00: The scrum needs a couple of resets.

46.00: Greg Holmes comes on for James Slipper and Sarel Pretorius comes on for Shaun Venter.

50.00: The second half has yet to gain any momentum. Lots of stops and starts.

52.00: The Reds are going through the phases but it is slow. Cooper almost gets Robinson away but he is caught. The Reds keep the ball alive and continue through the phases.

53.00: The Cheetahs look to be handling the Reds attack and then the Reds chip through and Feauai-Sautia chases the ball and gets it down. We go to the TMO to check the grounding. It’s a TRY !

54.00: Cooper takes the conversion from well out. He hits the post.

57.00: The Cheetahs have the ball and work it into the Reds 22. They start going through the phases – and win a penalty for joining the ruck incorrectly. Goosen will have a shot.

59.00: Goosen slots the penalty to cut the points deficit a little.

61.00: Johan Goosen has been replaced by Elgar Watts.

64.00: Penalty to the Reds. Quade Cooper will have a shot. He slots it.

67.00: The Reds have the ball inside the Cheetahs half. They try to move the ball down the wing but there is no one there and the ball goes out.

69.00: The Reds win another penalty so Cooper takes the shot and nails it.

71.00: Will Genia has been replaced by Nick Frisby.

73.00:Sarel Pretorius gets the ball to Elgar Watts who shows some pace and stumbles to the line and scores. TRY!

74.00: Watts adds the conversion.

75.00: The Reds work the ball into the Cheetahs 22 and look dangerous but then they concede a penalty so the Cheetahs kick for touch.

77.00:  The Reds are still banging away at the Cheetahs but their passes are a little loose – intercept try danger.

78.00: The Reds put the Cheetahs under heavy pressure in the corner. The Reds recycle and try to go wide but the Cheetahs hold them out. The reds lose the ball forward. That all came after Harris tried a drop goal but was charged down.

79.00: The Cheetahs have a 5m scrum (their end). The scrum collapses as the siren sounds. Has to be reset.

81.00: Penalty to the Reds in front of the posts.

Cooper takes the kick and nails it costing the Cheetahs the bonus point.

That’s it. The Reds win.
