QR Queensland Reds back-rower Hugh McMeniman will miss this weekend’s clash with the Western Force at Suncorp Stadium.

On a positive note, a scan today revealed no significant damage to his shoulder but it is difficult to assess how long he will be out.

The Reds are playing a waiting game this week as a number of players face fitness tests but received some good news with Julian Huxley a good chance of playing after a swollen ankle seems to have settled and Drew Mitchell cleared to play despite suffering bursitis of the elbow.

However captain John Roe, the experienced Mark Connors, exciting rookie Berrick Barnes and halfback Nic Berry will need to get through training in the next couple of days to be considered for selection.

Ben Tune and Peter Hynes came through last Friday’s match for Queensland A well and they should also be available for selection.

Despite the desperate need for a win this weekend, coach Jeff Miller will not be taking any risks.

‘We’ll take the medical advice on all those players,’ Miller said.

‘Really, we want to try to go in with as many fit players as we possibly can and not risk too much going in with unfit players.’
