Reds beat Rebels in Brisbane

The Reds have played the Rebels 17 times in Super rugby proper since 2011 and the Reds have won 10 matches, lost 7 times and drawn none.

The Reds 10 wins out of 17 matches gives them a record of winning 59% of their matches against the Rebels regardless of venue.

The Reds kick off and the match is underway.

2.00: The Reds knock on at the half way line after some attacking play so the Rebels have a scrum 5m out.

3.00: The Rebels win the scrum and go through three phases on attack and then kick the ball away. The Reds get the ball recycle it and James O’Connor boots it into touch.

6.00: The Rebels set up their attack by running the ball into the Reds 22. The ball is kicked wide by Matt Toomua to Andrew Kellaway who jumps high for the ball, catches it and drops to the ground to score. His foot just clips the line before he grounds it. No try.

8.00: The Rebels go on the attack again but as they get to the 22 Jordan Petaia intercepts Toomua’s pass and he races away to the line and scores. TRY! Marika Koroibete tried to catch him but could not.

9.00: James O’Connor adds the conversion. The Reds lead 7-0.

14.00: The Rebels put in a big shove at the scrum inside the Reds half and it wins them the penalty. They want points on the board so Toomua signals that he will have a penalty kick.

16.00: Toomua nails the penalty kick and the Rebels are on the board. 7-3.

19.00: Jock Campbell gets to the ball in front of the posts but is tackled. He offloads to Petaia but he is aslo stopped just in time to save the try.

20.00: The Reds are opening up and running with the ball more. This time they go wide down the wing and then come back to the middle but the ball is lost forward.

24.00: Penalty to the Reds. O’Connor takes the penalty kick and nails it. 10-3.

28.00:The Reds are awarded another penalty so O’Connor lines up the posts again. This time he misses to the right.

29.00:From the kick off James O’Connor gets the ball and runs straight through the Rebels. He makes about 25m and is caught. The Reds recycle and go through the phases until the Rebels turn the ball over.

30.00: The Rebels go through three phases but then pass the ball forward.

33.00: The Reds run the ball but the Rebels steal it and run half the field. The Reds then steal the ball and they go through a couple of phases and kick it to Andrew Kellaway who kicks it away as well.

34.00: The Reds recycle the ball, O’Connor kicks the ball to clear it but it charged down by Isi Naisarani – he chases the ball as it bounces over the line but he cant get to it and it rolls over the dead ball line.

38.00: The Rebels attack with the ball just inside the Reds half. The Reds are caught napping as Marika Koroibete picks up the ball on the side of the ruck and runs through a gap and runs off to score. TRY!

40.00: Toomua slots the conversion which levels the scores.

The Reds have suffered a blow during half time as Jordan Petaia failed a HIA test and is off for the match.

42.00: Dane Haylett-Petty looks to have pulled something. He gets some help and is coming off.

44.00: The Reds pass the ball through the hands and after several passes Lukhan Salakaia-Loto goes over to score. TRY!

45.00: O’Connor adds the conversion.

50.00: The Reds get through the Rebels defensive line – Tate McDermott sells a dummy and kicks to the corner – it is too deep and goes over the dead ball line.

53..00: Matt Toomua clears the ball into touch but he immediately shows some pain. Toomua comes off pointing to his groin. The Rebels have a penalty kick. Reece Hodge takes the kick and nails it to reduce the deficit.

57.00: Penalty to the Reds. O’Connor lines up the posts. He nails it. Off the post.

61.00; The Rebels put the pressure on the Reds and get the overlap in the corner but the final pass is forward. With an open tryline ahead Billy Meakes passed the ball forward.

The Rebels have now lost hooker Jordan Uelese to an injury. He walks from the field but looks to have a serious arm injury.

64.00: Tensions are growing as there is some pushing and shoving coming into the game.

67.00: Penalty to the Reds from the scrum. O’Connor kicks for touch and territory.

71.00: The Rebels have pushed the Reds back into their half. It’s become an armwrestle. The Rebels win a penalty from the scrum. They will have another scrum.

72.00: Scrum penalty to the Reds! They kick for touch.

74.00: The Reds win the line out. Tupou offloads to Filipo Daugunu who races for the line and scores – TRY!!!

76.00: O’Connor misses the conversion.

77.00: The Reds are running freely now – they attack down the wing but this time the final pass goes into touch.

79.00: The Rebels are not giving up on this. They are holding on to the ball and still pushing for the try. The Reds scramble their defences and stop Hodge on the wing.

The siren sounds. The Reds kick the ball out and that is it. The Reds are have won. They are in the Grand final.
