The second Super Rugby match on Friday in Round 18 is in Brisbane where the Queensland Reds play the Rebels from Melbourne.
These teams have already met once this season and the Rebels beat the Reds in Melbourne 45-19 in February.
- The Rebels have won five of their last eight games against the Reds, including a 45-19 win when they met earlier this season; they had never defeated Queensland prior to this run (L6).
- The Reds have won only one of their last 10 games, and have lost their last five on the bounce; the last time they lost more in succession as a six-game drought in early 2017.
- The Rebels have won half of their previous 14 Australian derbies away from home; however, they’ve never won such a fixture by a margin of more than seven points.
- The Rebels are the most penalised team in the competition this season, conceding an average of 11 penalties per game.
- Samu Kerevi has scored four tries and assisted one in his last three games against the Rebels, crossing at least once in each of those games.
Colby Fainga’a leads the Rebels out in his 100th Super Rugby match.
We are waiting for the kick-off.
1.00: PEEEEP! We are underway in Queensland.
4.00: Pretty slow start to the game, a few scrum resets get us going.
6.00: Marika Koroibete is tackled into touch. Lineout to the Reds is lost and the Rebels attack inside the opposition’s 22.
9.00: The Rebels go 13 phases but cannot get over the advantage line. They do, however, get a penalty after Liam Wright goes off his feet at the ruck.
10.00: PENALTY! Reece Hodge puts his team on the scoreboard. 0-3
12.00: Fainga’a steals the ball at the breakdown and Jono Lance clears. With no George Smith tonight, Fainga’a will have a good chance to dominate the breakdown.
13.00: Penalty to the Reds.
14.00: PENALTY! Lance levels from in front. 3-all
17.00: Lots of kicking so far – and scrum-resets.
19.00: Tetera Faulkner, back after a lengthy layoff, is pinged for collapsing. Lance kicks to the corner, but the Reds lose the ball with a poor lineout and the Rebels clear to their 10m.
21.00: Some excellent pick-and-drives set up the Reds on the Rebels line. The Reds go 14 phases before kicking the ball across the field for Filipo Daugunu, but the ball is long.
23.00: The Reds should have given the ball through the hands because they had a two-on-one. They get a penalty and take a scrum.
24.00: BIG SCRUM! Faulkner is pinged, again. Scott Higginbotham wants to scrum.
25.00: Faulkner is having a nightmare. Referee Paul Williams tells Tom English that another penalty against Faulkner will result in him going off. It’s tough out there for the big man.
26.00: PENALTY TRY! Faulkner buckles and the ref awards a penalty try. 10-3
28.00: TRY! What a try! Jack Maddocks, Michael Ruru and Hodge combine for Angus Cottrell’s score in the corner. Superb handling and running by the Rebels for the score. 10-8
30.00: CONVERSION! Hodge levels from the touchline. 10-all
32.00: TRY! Maddocks races away from Higginbotham and Kane Douglas for the Rebels’ second try. Ruru drew the four forward defenders and put the winger in the hole. 10-15
33.00: CONVERSION! Hodge slots the kick. 10-17
35.00: Hodge throws an intercept to Brandon Paenga-Amosa. The hooker charges forward, but in turn, throws a pass to Ruru, who does not kick. The No 9 takes contact and the Rebels win the penalty.
36.00: Taniela Tupou smokes Ruru with a big hit. The halfback was blindsided. The Rebels end up with a lineout near the Reds 22 and are on the attack.
37.00: Amanaki Mafi is tackled, rolls like Neymar and is penalised for not releasing. Lance clears.
39.00: TRY! Maddocks’ kick is charged down by Izack Rodda. The big man gathers and scores under the sticks. 15-17
40.00: CONVERSION! The game is level for the third time. 17-all
41.00: Moses Sorovi goes down after being checked by Hodge. Higginbotham opts for a scrum because Faulkner is on thin ground. The ref warns English that the warning still stands against the prop.
43.00: TRY? The Rebels’ scrum disintegrated under the weight of pressure by the Reds. Paenga-Amosa picked up a loose ball and is over the whitewash, but we are looking for a knock-on or penalty for offsides. The hooker is behind Rodda, who kicked the ball.
43.00: NO TRY! Higginbotham is adjudged to have kicked the ball forward, and Paenga-Amosa was in front. another scrum.
44.00: Faulkner buckles, but the referee blows for a penalty to the Rebels. That can’t be right. The referee apologises for putting the wrong arm up; it’s a penalty to the Reds, not the visitors. A huge brawl breaks out and now we are checking for foul play.
44.00: YELLOW CARD! Faulkner is sent to the bin. He has had a nightmare and surely, cannot return.
45.00: Scrum to the Reds. This is awesome.
46.00: TRY! The Rebels buckle, Higginbotham picks up and charges forward before giving a wonderful offload which sees Daugunu dot down in the corner. Maddocks packed down, leaving his wing open for the taking. 22-17

The halftime score was Reds 24 Rebels 17
41.00: PEEEEP! We are back underway in Australia.

43.00: PENALTY! DROP-KICK! The ball falls off the tee twice and with five seconds left to take a shot, Hodge picks up and leathers a drop-goal through the posts. 24-20
46.00: The rebels are taking their time trying to run down the clock and get back to their full quota.
48.00: PENALTY! Hodge makes it a one-point ball-game. 24-23
49.00: Higginbotham is down after challenging Maddocks for a high-ball.
52.00: Another lost lineout for the Reds. Ruru clears.
55.00: Lots of chat between both sets of forwards.
57.00: YELLOW CARD! Paia’aua is off after the Reds commit one too many infringements.

61.00: Both teams’ lineouts have been poor.
64.00: MISS! Hodge’s kick is pushed wide. 24-23
65.00: Amanaki Mafi, who is the Super rugby leader in carries and metres made, busts through the defence and charges forward. Somehow, the Reds win the ball and start a counter-attack.

69.00: The Reds are inside the Rebels 22 and have a penalty advantage.
