Reds beat Southern Kings in Brisbane




The second match in Round 8 this weekend is another first for Super Rugby as the Reds have never played the Southern Kings even though the Kings were in Super Rugby last year and in 2013.

We are waiting for the kick off.

The Kings kick off and the match is underway.

1.00:The ball goes into touch and the Kings have a line out.

3.00: The Kings win the line out but the Reds turn the ball over and attack the Kings. The Reds go through 11 phases on attack and they wide to the corner where Eto Nabuli goes over to score. TMO replays reveal that he had a foot in touch. The Reds had the advantage so they have a penalty and take the line out.

4.00: The Reds make a mess of the line out so the Kings have a defensive scrum on their 5m line.

5.00: The Reds win the ball from the scrum and send it wide to Nabuli who beats one and crashes over to score. TRY!

6.00: Quade Cooper adds the conversion.

8.00: The Kings cross the line but Perese holds the ball up.

9.00; The Kings work the ball to the Reds tryline where they win a penalty. They take the line out. The Reds get to the ball and boot it into touch near the half way line.

13.00 :Martin Bezuidenhout comes on for Michael Willemse who goes off possibly for blood.

17.00: The Kings are doing most of the playing which is forcing the Reds to defend. The Kings win a penalty and take the line out.

18.00: George Smith steals the ball at the line out and the Reds clear it into touch.

19.00: The Reds steal the line out again and go wide but the final ball to Nabuli goes to ground and into touch.

20.00:The Reds win the line out but concede a penalty for not releasing the tackled player. The Kings set up a line out in the Reds 22.

22.00: The Kings win the line out and go through the phases on attack. The ball is chipped through and Chris Cloete gathers it and dives over to score. TRY!

24.00: Lionel Cronje adds the conversion and levels the scores.

25.00: The Karmichael Hunt has a run through the Kings defence but is caught.

27.00: The Reds work the ball to the Kings line. They have several goes at the line and Hunt goes over. The TMO will review. It’s good so the try is awarded. TRY!

28.00: Cooper adds the conversion.

31.00: The Reds win the put in for a scrum after the Kings front row collapses on the Reds 5m line.

33.00: The Kings break out on attack and Yaw Penxe goes for the corner but gets a foot in touch. The TMO confirms the foot in touch. The Reds clear the ball after winning the line out.

37.00: The TMO is called in for a late tackle by the Reds.  Duncan Paia’aua is yellow carded. The Kings will have a shot at posts for the penalty.

38.00: Cronje slots the penalty.

39.00: The Kings win a line out as the siren sounds. They kick it out.

40.00: It’s half time.

The Reds kick off and the second half is underway.

42.00: The Kings chip the ball ahead and chase but there is a race between Louis Schreuder and Scott Higginbotham for the ball. Higginbotham wins the race.

43.00: The Reds get the ball from a line out and George Smith goes for the line and scores. TRY! It’s his 150th cap and he has scored on the special occasion.

44.00:Cooper adds the conversion.

The Reds move the ball through the hands in the Kings 22 after the Kings lose it and George Smith gathers it. The ball gets to Nabuli who runs in to score in the corner. TRY!

48.00: Cooper misses the conversion. The Reds are still down a man.

51.00: The Kings attack the Reds and they get to the line. Schreuder takes a quick dive from the side of a ruck and scores. TRY!

52.00: Schreuder adds the conversion.

54.00: The Reds immediately hit back as Cooper sets up Simmons and then the Cooper chips ahead and Karmichael Hunt scores. TRY!

55.00: Cooper adds the conversion and Cooper becomes the first Queenslander to break the 800 point mark.

58.00: The Reds open up the Kings again and Izaia Perese shows some pace one his way to the line and scores. TRY!

58.00: Cooper adds the conversion.

60.00: Cooper kicks the ball across the field on the 5m line for Hunt who offloads to Perese who shows his pace again as he runs for the line and scores. 95m TRY !

61.00; Cooper adds the conversion.

66.00: The Kings stretch the Reds defence and Makazole Mapimpi gets the ball on the wing and runs in the visitors third TRY!.

67.00: Cronje misses the conversion.

68.00: Quade Cooper gets trapped in his 22 and is then forced into touch. There is some trouble off the pitch so the TMO is brought in to review foul play. Wandile Mjekevu is yellow carded for dropping his knee on Cooper.

72.00: The Kings have picked up the pace in the game. Masixole Banda beats George Smith and Karmichael Hunt on his way to the tryline and scores. TRY!

74.00: Pieter-Steyn de Wet takes the conversion kick but misses.

74.00: The Kings are opening up ! Mapimpi gets the ball again out wide and races in to score his second TRY!

75.00: De Wet adds the conversion.

76.00: The Reds look to hit back with a try in the corner but they are pushed into touch.

79.00: The Kings go for the corner and look to have scored. The TMO is called in. No try as Banda had a knee in touch.

80.00: The siren sounds but we have time for a Kings 5m scrum.

81.00: The Kings win the scrum but the Reds turn the ball over and kick it into touch and end the game.
