Waratahs beat Reds in Brisbane

The first Super Rugby match on Sunday for 2016 is in Brisbane where the Reds host the Waratahs at Suncorp Stadium.

Match detail

We are waiting for the kick off. Late change Junior Laloifi starts for Chris Feauai-Sautia in the Reds backline.

The Waratahs kick off and we are underway.

The ball is knocked on after the kick off so the Reds have a scrum.

2.00: The Reds win the scrum but the ball is taken back in and knocked on.

3.00: The Reds win the scrum against the Waratahs feed. They attack through 5 phases and win a penalty. They kick for touch.

5.00: The Reds win the line out and after two phases Cadeyrn Neville slips through, he is caught but the Reds are on the front foot and work the ball to the 5m line. The ball slows and they are called back for a penalty.

8.00: The Reds choose the scrum. They win another penalty.

9.00: The Reds choose another scrum and they (Rob Simmons) drive over the line but are held up. They get called back for another penalty for angling in.

10.00: The Reds opt for another scrum. They win the scrum and run the ball down the line. They run out of space on the far side so they change side and win another penalty. The Waratahs get a warning.

12.00: The referee runs out of patience and awards the Reds a penalty TRY!

13.00: Jake McIntyre adds the conversion.

15.00: Penalty to the Reds. McIntyre takes the kick but misses.

18.00: The Waratahs spread the ball wide and run at the Reds after a scrum. They are initially slowed but they get the ball out and pass to Israel Folau who scores in the corner. TRY! Thye TMO checks. The try sticks.

19.00: Bernard Foley misses the conversion.

23.00: The Reds win another big scrum, they run the ball and get it into the Reds half but the Waratahs turn the ball over and it is taken into touch.

27.00: The Reds break again and Nabuli races down the wing but he is called back for a forward pass.

29.00: A big scrum from the Waratahs earns them a penalty. Foley kicks for the corner. The Waratahs win the line out and then a penalty for not releasing. The Tahs kick for touch and the line out again.

32.00: The Reds intercept a pass at the back of the scrum, they run the ball but are then pushed into touch.

35.00: The Reds win a line out. They move the ball down the line but get shut down and concede a penalty for not releasing. Foley kicks for touch.

39.00: The Reds turn the ball over and Kerevi chips the ball ahead, the Reds chase and look like they will score but the ball bounces around and there is no support and the attack dies.

40.00: The Reds have the ball and are building pressure in the Waratahs half. They go through 8 phases. The Waratahs turn the ball over (Hooper) and Foley snipes through the Reds. He is caught and Folau gets the ball and races to the line and scores. TRY!

42.00: Foley takes the conversion kick and nails it.

The Reds kick off and the second half is underway.

The Reds win the ball back from the kick off but the Waratahs turn the ball over.

42.00: The Waratahs try to clear the ball but Jake McIntyre charges it down and chases. The Reds follow up and Zac Guildford loses the ball. The Reds follow up and the ball is taken over the line but there are so many bodies we have to go to the TMO to check. No try as there is no clear grounding. The Reds get the scrum put in.

43.00: Penalty to the Reds for collapsing. The hand bags come out. The TMO is called in as there is a possible knee to the head. Andrew Ready is yellow carded.

43.00: The Waratahs choose a scrum and the hand bags come out again. Penalty to the Reds for a shove in the face. McIntyre takes the kick and nails it.

48.00. The Reds win another penalty. McIntyre takes the kick at goal. He nails it and the Reds lead.

52.00: The Waratahs concede their 13th penalty. McIntyre kicks for touch.

54.00: The Reds win a scrum and run at the Waratahs. They get to the 5m line but lose the ball forward. The Waratahs play on. A kicking contest follows and ends with Foley kicking for touch.

56.00: The Waratahs win a line out on the 5m line. They go over the line but are held up. They did have the advantage so the Waratahs choose another line out.

59.00: The throw goes to the back and the Reds get the ball and clear.

62.00: The Reds win a penalty from the scrum. McIntyre kicks for touch.

66.00: Penalty to the Waratahs after some pressure on the Reds. Foley takes the kick at goal. He nails it and the Waratahs lead.

71.0: Penalty again to the Waratahs. Beale will take the kick for posts. He takes the kick but its short.

74.00: The Waratahs are playing the game in the Reds half. They go through 4 phases and get into the Reds 22. They lose the ball and the Reds turn the ball over but the passing is poor and the ball goes to ground.

76.00: Penalty to the Reds. McIntyre kicks for touch and the line out.

79.00: The Waratahs work the ball back into the Reds 22. They slow the ball down. The siren sounds and the ball goes into touch.
