SA Rugby has received the final oral and visual presentations from the six franchises bidding for the five places allocated to South Africa in the new Super 14 competition commencing next season.

The presentations took place in Cape Town following the Adjudication Panel’s in-loco inspections of the various proposed match venues last month.

Today’s proceedings were open to the media and members of the public.

Commenting on the process, Chairman of the Panel Advocate Norman Arendse said he was satisfied that the bidding entities had dedicated considerable time preparing for the day, and that was a reflection of how serious they were about rugby in South Africa.

‘All six made compelling arguments for their entities,’ said Arendse. ‘The next stage is for the Panel to sit down and assess who they think the five should be, and then present a recommendation to SA Rugby. It’s a process we all take very seriously. We are mindful of the role this process plays in determining the future of rugby in this country.’

The bidding franchises are: Western Province, South and Eastern Cape, Cats, Central Region, Natal Sharks and Blue Bulls.
