English club Saracens are said to be negotiating a unique transfer deal to share flanker Schalk Burger with the Stormers and the Springboks.

The chances of the agreement actually being reached appear slim according to the Pretoria News.

The Daily Mail in England said on Tuesday that if the deal goes through Burger would sign a 10-match contract to play for Saracens in the English Premiership, spread over the first four months of next season.

The plan is said to be for Burger to play half his rugby for the Stormers and Springboks and the other half for Saracens, who’d release the player for two of the Boks’ year-end Tests in the UK.

Sources close to Burger say that the deal in unlikely though as it would mean that Burger would be playing rugby non stop for almost a year.

Burger would play in all the Stormers matches in the Super 14, then the Lions tour and the TriNations and then he would go straight into the Guinness Premiership until the next season’s Super 14.

The deal is said to be similar to Dan Carter’s deal and Burger would pocket in the region of about R1,4-million (USD 140 000).
