Saracens are looking to sign Springbok & Bulls flanker Wikus van Heerden in order to fill the hole left by retiring Richard Hill next season.

According to the Daily Mail negotiations are at an advanced stage for the 29-year-old Bulls star, who appeared in six of South Africa’s seven matches at the World cup.

Saracens hope that Van Heerden, nicknamed Captain Courageous, will be their third Test signing following England lock Steve Borthwick from Bath and Wales No 8 Michael Owen from Newport.

Hill will retire at the end of the season and he will be sorely missed by Saracens.

Eddie Jones, the former Australia coach who takes over as Saracens’ director of rugby next month, said: ‘His performance against Munster on Sunday showed how much England have missed him for the last four years.’

The future of the Bulls does not look too good.

The Bulls look set to lose Bakkies Botha in the near future, Victor Matfield return for the Bulls seeems ever less likely as he is said to be close to signing with Northampton and Fourie du Preez is being considered by the Cardiff Blues.
