Hurricanes flanker Ardie Savea says that he is really looking forward to playing in the Super Rugby final against the Lions in Wellington on Saturday.

Although the Hurricanes contested last year’s Super Rugby final the flanker was not part of the team that lost to the Highlanders due to injury.

Savea says that unlike last year when he was ruled out with a knee problem he is ready to go.

“Last year, I was just focused on getting my knee right and didn’t train with the boys and wasn’t in the environment quite as much, ” Savea told AAP.

“But this week has been awesome, just getting in amongst it and actually getting to train, so I’m really looking forward to it. ”

Savea’s speed and his athleticism has been a core part of the Hurricanes run towards the Super Rugby final.

The flanker’s early season form earned him call up for the All Blacks and he played in two of the Tests and has been included in the All Blacks’ squad for the upcoming Rugby Championship.

Although the 22-year-old’s form had already caught the All Black selectors attention in recent weeks he has taken another step up.

Savea says that the Hurricanes know that the Super Rugby final will be a special match but they are still treating at as any other match where they would have to earn their selection for next week.

“We’ve got the mind set just to go out there and earn another Monday, ” he said.

“In the back of our minds we know it’s not going to be that. The Lions are going to come out in full force and we’re prepared for that. ”

Hurricanes coach Chris Boyd says that he is delighted that Savea was available for selection this weekend.

“He was a big factor that was missing in the final last year, ” Boyd said.

“He was really disappointed not to play in that game. His form has been outstanding, so I think to have him here is a massive positive for us. ”

The Bookies have the Hurricanes to beat the Lions by 8 points and win the title. Ardie Savea is 14/1 to score the first Try.
