Springbok and Stormers loose forward Schalk Burger will appear before a disciplinary committee on Monday after gestculating to assistant referee (touch judge) Willie Roos when he was yellow-carded in the Super 14 natch between the Sharks and Stormers in Durban on Saturday.

Burger was identified by Roos as the player who rushed in to become involved in a fracas between forwards of the two sides, and was yellow-carded by referee Kelvin Deaker for his involvement.

As he walked off the field, he continually gesticulated to Roos, implying that the assistant rdeferee should open his eyes.

It was the disrespectful act towards Roos that now has one of South Africa’s favourite rugby sons in trouble, and not his involvement in what was little more than “handbag-swiping” incident between forwards ot the two teams.

Beeld quotes SA Rugby’s chief of referees Andre Watson as saying that he has never seen anything like Burger’s behaviour on a rugby field and that it simply cannot be tolerated..

Christo Ferreira, who is in charge of legal matters at SA Rugby, confirmed that Burger would appear before a disciplinary in Cape Town on Monday afternoon, according to Monday’s Beeld.
