Sharks U/21 Lock Stephan Lewies has been named to make his full Sharks Currie Cup debut as one of two changes to the line up that will face the Golden Lions in Johannesburg on Saturday.

The Sharks lost Pieter-Steph du Toit and Marcell Coetzee to the Springboks this weekend which has allowed Lewies and Justin Downey at flank to start.

Looking ahead to this week’s opposition forwards Coach, Brad Macleod-Henderson said, “The Lions have done well this year and have had a good run in the Currie Cup, they have a tough pack of forwards, some exciting backs and we’re playing at Ellis Park so it’s going to be a big challenge on Friday night.”

Coetzee and Du Toit played a big role in the Cheetahs 26-50 hammering of the Cheetahs which allowed the Sharks to move to the top of the standings.

Backline Coach, Sean Everitt said that the Lions are, “a dangerous side, and we found that out here, they scored a couple of quick tries against us.”

“They play an exciting brand of rugby, and they are giving the ball a lot of air. So we’ll really have to be on our toes defensively, and play for the full 80 minutes to keep them out.”
