Sharks coach John Plumtree has named captain Stefan Terblanche at fullback for their Currie Cup match against the Pumas in Witbank.

There is uncertainty over the availability of Louis Ludik who has been bracketed in with Luzuko Vulindlu on the bench so Plumtree has opted to prepare with a starting XV that shouldn’t change from as early in the week as possible and thus minimising disruptions to the team as he had last week.

As Terblanche moves to fullback , Riaan Swanepoel comes back into the side after impressing off the bench.

Ryan Kankowski is a straight in-out swop with Keegan Daniel at eighthman while the front row shows a complete overhaul, Eugene van Staden, Craig Burden and Patric Cilliers all starting.

“In Louis Ludik’s case, it wasn’t fair to wait until captain’s practice for selection, I wanted to name a starting 15 and he’s been bracketed on the bench,” Plumtree explained on the Sharks site.

“Stefan Terblanche will give us real go-forward ball from a counter perspective and his experience is obviously important. Swannie and Andries have been in good form.

“We’re lucky to have Ryan back, especially after losing Keegan, he’s been in great form and losing him last week was a big blow for us. It’s great having Ryan coming back into the team, I’m looking for a real big performance from him on the weekend.

“We’re a bit lighter than the Pumas up front, but Patric Cilliers has worked hard on his conditioning over the last couple of weeks and played some good club rugby for Rovers, he’ll be pretty hungry to impress me and I wanted to see what Eugene can bring at tight-head.”

Plumtree pointed out that with five more matches remaining until the knock-out rounds, the team can afford no more slip-ups if they want to remain on top of the log.

“It’s getting to crunch time in the competition and every log point is valuable.”
