Sharks name Super Rugby training squad

Sharks Super Rugby head coach Robert du Preez has revealed a number of new signings and a provisional pre-season training squad for the 2017 season.

The Sharks have signed former France fullback Clement Poitrenaud on a one year contract as well as five other new players for the Durban franchise.

“The new players who have joined us will ensure that we have much needed depth in certain positions,” said du Preez on the new signings.

“We welcome them to our family and we look forward to their positive contributions going forward.

“Clement Poitrenaud brings with him a wealth of experience at both international and club level. He is a good acquisition for us and he will provide great mentorship and be a calming influence on the young and exciting, fullbacks in our team, who are relatively inexperienced.”

Wandile Mjekevu and Neil Maritz will be joining the Southern Kings on loan for Super Rugby 2017.

In addition to the Sharks new signings and re-signings star players such as Beast Mtawarira, Coenie Oosthuizen, Keegan Daniel, Lourens Adriaanse, Lwazi Mvovo and Patrick Lambie will add plenty of experience to this exciting squad.

In naming his provisional squad, du Preez said: “Our squad officially assembled today to start pre-season training. A structured pre-season programme has been drawn-up to ensure that our players’ fitness and skill set is right up there, once the tournament commences.”
