John Smit, the Springbok captain has been called up to join the Sharks Super 14 squad in Australia following an injury to prop Brent Moyle.

Smit missed the start of the Super 14 because of a six-week ban when he elbowed Jerome Thion, the French captain, during a test in Paris last November.

Although Smit’s suspension ended on February 26 he only returned to action in a low-key provincial match last Saturday, which saw him play 40 minutes, following groin surgery.

The Sharks have also called on Springboks Craig Davidson and Adi Jacobs to replace scrumhalf Sandile Nxumalo and wing Craig Burden.

The Sharks play the ACT Brumbies, the Otago Highlanders and the Wellington Hurricanes before returning to South Africa.
