South Africa beat Argentina in Pretoria

Out of the last five matches between South Africa’s Springboks and Argentina’s Pumas the Springboks have won four and drawn one.

Handre Pollard kicks off and the match is underway.

1.00: South Africa get the perfect start as they stretch Argentina in the blindside and Ruan Pienaar races for the line and scores the opening TRY!

2.00: Handre Pollard slots the conversion and the Springboks lead.

4.00: Penalty to Argentina so they will kick for posts.

5.00: The penalty is missed so no score yet for Argentina.

7.00: Argentina win a penalty from a powerful scrum. Nicolas Sanchez takes the penalty kick and nails it.

12.00: There is a break in play as Bismarck du Plessis gets some medical help. The game resumes with a line out for Argentina.

13.00: The Pumas show an impressive maul which makes ground but is then halted.

15.00: The rain is really pouring down now. The weather is preventing a free flowing game as the ball is so slippery.

16.00: Penalty to South Africa from the scrum. They choose to kick for posts. Early shove. Pollard slots the penalty.

18.00: Argentina manage to break through the Bok defence but the pass to Manuel Montero is not too good and he knocks it on with a fairly open try line ahead.

23.00: South Africa win a penalty and take the quick tap. Willie le Roux almost gets through but is caught.

27.00: Argentina appear to be handling the wet marginally better but South Africa’s defence is keeping them ahead.

31.00: Argentia are just edging the territory stats at 51% but they have made six handling errors compared to South Africa’s 3.

32.00: Penalty to South Africa. Willie le Roux kicks for touch.

35.00: Handre Pollard probes Argentina’s defence behind their backs but the ball goes into touch.

36.00:Nicolas Sanchez has a little run for Argentina but gets caught.

40.00: South Africa try to attack but the ball is turned over by the Pumas who kick the ball out. A little fight breaks out after Damian de Allende goes in with a late shoulder charge but he effectively gets away with it. It’s half time.

The second half of the match is underway.

42.00: Argentina enjoy a strong start to the second half. The pressure pays off as they win a penalty. Sanchez knocks it over to cut the points gap a little.

45.00: A little bit of a scuffle breaks out after Eben Etzebeth gets a little aggressive. The Pumas win a penalty and kick for touch after the scuffle dies down.

50.00: Penalty to South Africa. Morne Steyn who has recently come on takes the kick and nails it.

52.00: Another penalty for South Africa but this time they kick for touch.

55.00: The Pumas win a penalty from the breakdown so they kick for touch. The Springboks bring on Adriaan Strauss for Bismarck du Plessis.

57.00: The weather is drying up now and although there is still some very very wet patches the teams are able to kick for territory a little more which is opening the game up a little.

63.00: Penalty against Eben Etsebeth for sealing off. Argentina kick for touch and set up a line out on the half way line.

64.00: South Africa win another penalty so Steyn kicks for the corner and sets up a line out just outside the 5m line.

65.00: Argentina play a man in the air so the Springboks have another penalty. They kick for the corner again.

66.00: Argentina defend the line out and kick the ball into touch. They win another line out and kick and chase the ball but get caught offside.

68.00: South Africa kick for touch with the penalty.

72.00: The Springboks try to move the ball down the backline but Cornal Hendriks pass goes forward.

73.00: South Africa then concede a penalty for angling in. Argentina kick for touch.

75.00: Argentina win the line out and get to the tryline but the ball is turned over and Morne Steyn kicks for touch. Argentina are pressing hard.

78.00: The Pumas kick high to test Willie le Roux and he just gets to the ball. Steyn tries to clear the ball but it is charged down and the Pumas chase the ball back but lose it over the line. The TMO checks to see who carried it over and who knocked the ball down.

79.00: The Pumas get the ball back down to the Boks 5m line after the Boks had cleared the ball. They win a line out and run the ball as the siren sounds.

80.00: The Pumas knock on as they look to go wide. That is it. The Springboks win.
