The South African broadcasting corporation has announced that it has been confirmed that the Southern Spears will compete in next year’s Super 14.
They have reported that Tony McKeever, the Spears CEO, says he has received confirmation from Christo Ferreira, South African Rugby Union’s (Saru) legal affairs general manager.
McKeever earlier issued an ultimatum to Saru not to recant on an agreement reached last year by the President’s Council.
The five South African teams currently playing in the competition have insisted on removing the clause confirming that the lowest placed South African team will be relegated next year to make way for the Eastern Cape-based Spears.
