Saturday’s first match is one of the top clashes of the weekend as it puts the New Zealand and the South African conference leaders up against each other at the new Forsyth Barr Stadium in Dunedin.

0.00: Joe Pietersen gets proceedings under way in Dunedin as he kicks off for the Stormers.


1.00: The Stormers apply pressure early on as they work their way into the Highlanders’ half. The Highlanders affect a turnover, however, and punt the ball down field but Pietersen is able to clear and get the Stormers out of jail early on.


3.00: The Highlanders are penalised for not rolling away and Pietersen kicks for touch.


4.00: The Highlanders concede another penalty and Joe Pietersen will have a shot at goal from 30m out. Pietersen has a 70% kicking record thus far this season.


5.00: Pietersen bangs over the kick and hands the Stormers an early lead.


8.00: The Stormers are dominating territory statistics and the Highlanders do their best to work their way into the visitors’ half. They lose the ball forward, however, and Gio Aplon attempts to make a break up the touch line. The Stormers begin to build phases inside the Highlanders’ half before Bryan Habana makes a 20m break to get within 5m of the line. He is penalised for holding on and the Highlanders are able to relieve the pressure.


12.00: Aplon scores the first try after Jean de Villiers gets a boot to a loose ball and punts it down field. Aplon beats a Highlanders defender to the line to dot down.


13.00: Pietersen fluffs the conversion.


15.00: Chris Noakes will line up a shot at goal after the Stormers were penalised inside their own half. He bangs over the kick to reduce the deficit.


18.00: The Highlanders are pinged for early engagement for the second time. The Stormers opt to take it quickly but the Highlanders are able to steal the ball and get themselves back into the Stormers’ 22. They get within 5m but lose the ball after a sloppy pass. Peter Grant clears.


21.00: The Stormers are penalised for not rolling away and Noakes will take a kick at goal from 25m out.


22.00: Noakes misses the kick and the scoreline remains 8-3 to the visitors.


23.00: The Highlanders are gaining momentum inside Stormers territory. The visitors’ defence remains impenetrable but the Highlanders attempt to find gaps on the outside.


25.00: The Stormers are penalised for collapsing the scrum and Noakes will have another attempt at goal.


26.00: Noakes misses the kick.


29.00: The Highlanders are put under pressure inside their own 22 but do well to clear their line as Shaun Treeby side-steps and offloads to Hosea Gear. He makes a strong break and clears to get the home side out of danger.


31.00: Pietersen males a solid break down field to get inside the Highlanders’ half. The Stormers ensure a quick recycle after Pietersen goes to ground. Aplon runs down the sideline and offloads to Pietersen on the inside who chip kicks, gathers and scores the Stormers’ second try.


33.00: Peter Grant adds the extras with the conversion.


36.00: The Highlanders work their way inside Stormers territory and start to build phases. They get within 10m before earning a penalty and Noakes will have another shot at posts.


37.00: Noakes bangs over the kick to reduce the deficit.


38.00: The Highlanders are dominating possession and territory statistics, with the Stormers having spent only one minute of the game inside the Highlanders’ 22. The home side are battling to convert pressure into points, however, as the Stormers show their defensive prowess.


40.00: The whistle goes for half time in Dunedin.

42.00: The Highlanders apply pressure early on in the second half as they get their way into the Stormers’ half. A kick down field sees Aplon have to run back and cover. He injures himself in the process.


43.00: The Highlanders are penalised for offside on half way and Pietersen will have a long-range shot at goal.


44.00: Pietersen’s kick drifts away to the right.


47.00: The Stormers gain momentum inside the Highlanders’ 22 and are able to build phases for a sustained period. The Highlanders are awarded a scrum just 5m out and Noakes clears to relieve the pressure.


50.00: The Highlanders are awarded a scrum on their 22m line. They work through several phases but are penalised for not releasing and Grant will line up a shot at the uprights.


52.00: Grant’s kick is successful and the Stormers extend their lead.


54.00: Dewaldt Duvenage puts a brilliant kick into the corner from half way and the Highlanders once again find themselves camped inside their own 22.


56.00: Jimmy Cowan runs out onto the park to earn his 100th cap for the Highlanders.


58.00: The Highlanders are penalised at scrum time on half way and Pietersen opts to kick for touch to set up a Stormers lineout.


60.00: The Stormers are pinged for holding on and Noakes clears from his own 22.


62.00: The Highlanders work their way back inside the Stormers’ half. The visitors have been forced to make 109 tackles thus far and continue to defend their line ferociously.


63.00: The Stormers are penalised for hands in the ruck and Noakes kicks for the corner as the Highlanders are desperate to score here.


64.00: Again the Stormers are penalised for the same offence. The Highlanders kick for the corner and get another lineout just 5m out.


66.00: Tiaan Liebenberg is yellow carded for the repeated offence of playing the ball on the ground.


69.00: The Highlanders begin to work through phases inside Stormers territory but lose momentum as the ball rolls into touch.


70.00: Grant will have a kick at posts from 35m out after the Highlanders were penalised for an early tackle.


71.00: The kick sails over and the Stormers extend their lead.


74.00: The Highlanders are pinged for early engagement at a scrum just inside the Stormers’ half.


77.00: The Stormers are penalised for holding on inside their own half. The Highlanders take it quickly as they look for a consolation try.


78.00: Tamati Ellison makes a break for the line but it seems he has put his foot into touch as Pietersen makes a try-saving tackle. The TMO rules no try.


79.00: The Stormers retain possession as they look to run the clock down.


80.00: Burton Francis punts the ball into touch as the hooter sounds. The Stormers remain the only unbeaten side in the competition.
