The Stormers could be boosted by the return of Conrad Jantjes and JD Moller for the match that is shaping up to be Super 14 survival battle against the Lions at Newlands on Saturday.

The Stormers have lost three of their opening four matches but the middle of the table is fairly close and the Stormers only trail the fourth placed Hurricanes by seven points.

If the Stormers want to reach the play offs in May they really need to turn things around and start winning otherwise they will get left behind.

The Lions will be coming off a bye this week and then the Stormers get their bye before they go on tour for five weeks with matches against the Crusaders, Waratahs, Brumbies, Hurricanes and Highlanders ahead of them.

Coach Rassie Erasmus will however be able to take heart from the fact that his team usually travels well and some of the traditionally strong teams like the Crusaders are struggling.

“I can’t tell you whether we are in or out. We hope to beat the Lions this week and the Crusaders after that,” Erasmus told Die Burger.

“Unfortunately we are under pressure because we have only won one out of four games.

“In all four those games we had opportunities to win or draw. I take that positive, but also accept that we are now with our backs to the wall.

“I think we will have opportunities in all our remaining games to win. We then have to hold onto that last pass or succeed with the important kick at goal.

“The Sharks and Bulls are the two best sides in the competition and we have played them both.”

Schalk Burger, Adriaan Fondse and Sireli Naqelevuki could return to the starting line-up for the Lions clash.
