Flyhalf Willem de Waal, who missed most of his first season in the Cape last year, seems destined not to play in any of the warm-ups of the Stormers before their first Super 14 match against the Sharks on Saturday February 14.

The big-kicking flyhalf did not take part in training on Wednesday because of a hand injury, and the Stormers website reports the injury will keep him from any contact until the first match.

Springbok fullback Conrad Jantjes, who has recovered from a groin injury, will be nursed back into action and will not, according to the website, play against Saracens on January 25.

Two Springboks, Peter Grant and Percy Montgomery, are the likely stand-ins for these two – although Grant may well be coach Rassie Erasmus’ first choice as pivot.

Springbok tighthead Brian Mujati will definitely be fit for the Saracens match and has recovered much sooner than expected from a shoulder injury.
