Stormers tame Cats

on

The Stormers opened their Super 14 campaign with a win over the Cats who were pretty woeful. The match was a scrappy affair. The Cats led 3-0 after eight minutes but that was about it for Cats fans. Tries for the Stormers by their Springboks Bolla Conradie and Jean de Villiers ensured the Stormers were the victors.

The Try less Cats only managed to score four penalties and could not manage to get over the Stormers try line even when the Cats were one man up.

The Stormers however managed to get de Villiers over the Cats try line with one man down as ex Springbok centre de wet Barry was sin-binned for blatantly head-butting replacement Cats lock Willem Stoltz in a ruck.

The Stormers were 6-17 up at halftime and only managed to score another two penalties in the 2nd half while the Cats also scored the same two. The 2nd half was scrappy because both teams seemed to battle to hold on to the ball after the rains in the afternoon.

Final score Cats 12 Stormers 23. The local derby is South Africa hold special significance because the lowest place South African team drops out to make way for the Southern Spears in 2007.
