The Stormers who appear to be hitting some form will be further boosted by the arrival of former All Black and Sharks flyhalf Tony Brown ahead of their crucial Super 14 match against the Blues in Auckland at the weekend.

Brown was was part of the Wild Knights team that won the All Japan National Championship at the weekend, and will be flying to New Zealand as soon as possible to link up with the Stormers.

As he won’t know the Stormers moves and set pieces he is unlikely to feature against the Blues but his presence and knowledge of all things “Kiwi” will be a positive for the Stormers.

Brown’s arrival comes at a time when Peter Grant seems to be finding his feet so competition for the number 10 jersey will be stiff.

But Brown, at the age of 34, is reportedly still displaying the form that made him so effective for the Sharks two years ago, and coach Rassie Erasmus will be tempted to play him and Grant together in the key decision-making axis of flyhalf/inside centre.

Stormers coach Rassie Erasmus is unlikely to tinker much with the teams that beat the Chiefs 35-26 but he knows that the Stormers face a very different challenge on Saturday.

‘The Blues are very good in broken play but they are also a very structured team so they bring a bit of both approaches. They are a great team with a great coach and they have a good record in Auckland,’ said Erasmus on the Stormers website.

The Blues went down to the Force at the weekend and they will be hungry to get back to winning ways.

Should the Stormers win they will overtake or draw level with the currently fourth placed Blues on the log table so there is a lot for them to play for.
