Match detail

We are waiting for the kick-off.

In the meantime, why not have a look at the match preview.

.00: PEEEEP! We are underway at a sunny Newlands, Cape Town. Marty Banks starts at flyhalf for Josh Ioane and Pieter-Steph du Toit starts in place of Eben Etzebeth at lock.

.00: Dan Hollinshead comes onto the bench for Banks and Cobus Wiese comes in for Etzebeth. Johan du Toit is in for Kobus van Dyk, who moves to Du Toit’s flank.

.00: Some early pressure by the Highlanders, but the hosts win back possession.

.00: Seabelo Senatla slips Matt Faddes’ tackle, but is bundled out by Jordan Hyland.

.00: A stop in play as Siyabonga Ntubeni is seen to by medics.

.00: Aaron Smith feeds a defensive scrum inside his side’s 22 after a Stormers knock on.

.00: Smith clears from the back of the scrum. Lineout to the South African team on the visitor’s 10m.

.00: HIGHLANDERS GO CLOSE! Dillyn Leyds knocks on, the Highlanders counter-attack. The ball goes left then right to the big monster Waisake Naholo. Naholo tries to run over Leyds, but he atones for his error and makes the try-saving tackle. Naholo manages an offload to Elliot Dixon, but the number eight knocks on with the try-line at his mercy.

.00: Herschel Jantjies is almost intercepted inside his 22, but the ball floats over the defender and to Willemse, who clears. Faddes gets back and boots the ball directly out, but the ball sails out on the full.

.00: NO TRY! Senatla gathers Damian de Allende’s chip-kick and scores under the posts, however, referee Nic Berry sees Senatla in front and calls on TMO Willie Vos to check. Mr Vos wants to award the try, but Mr Berry tells him to look for another angle. There isn’t any, but Berry tells him the winger was in front and chalks off the five-pointer. 0-0

.00: A sustained period of attacks comes to an end when Cobus Wiese is pinged at the ruck. Tom Franklin is down and being checked by the medics. Banks will take a shot from distance.

.00: PENALTY! Banks opens the scoring. 0-3

.00: TRY! The Stormers hit back. Jantjies is put away by Senatla after a wonderful jinking run from the sevens specialist beats Faddes. Jantjies stepped Banks and dotted on the chalk, under pressure from Aaron Smith, for his third Super Rugby try. 5-3

.00: CONVERSION! Josh Stander adds the extras. 7-3

.00: Senatla drops an intercept chance after James Lentjes dropped Luke Whitelock’s pass. Scrum to the tourists.

.00: We have had five scrums and not one has been reset or penalised: What is going on?

.00: Lentjes tackles Leyds after the winger took a quick-tap penalty inside the Otago 22. The flanker infringes by not being back 10 metres and Berry awards another penalty. Stander will take a shot.

.00: PENALTY! Stander extends the lead. 10-3

.00: Stormer are running from deep but a penalty for a high tackle might be referred to the TMO.

.00: YELLOW CARD! A third high tackle in quick succession against the Kiwis. Faddes picked up De Allende, flipped him and dumped him on his head. 10-3

.00: Pieter-Steph du Toit getting checked after taking a knock.

.00: Smith throws an audacious dummy to spark an attack down the right-hand touchline. Naholo bounces Willemse before Banks plays a cross-kick to Hyland on the left-hand sideline. Hyland gathers and cuts inside, the ball is recycled before a Stormers’ hand kills play with a knock on.

.00: Great play by Van Dyk and Siya Kolisi, winning the penalty and relieving the pressure.

.00: TRY! Kolisi combines with De Allende with a one-hand take from a lineout move. Like last weekend against the Crusaders, Kolisi takes the delayed pass and ghosts through a gap. Senatla was the decoy, taking two defenders away from the midfield. The Boks captain bounced a cover defender and swivelled, under Smith’s tackle, over the line. 15-3

.00: CONVERSION! Standers adds the extras. 17-3

.00: The Stormers’ confidence is up; their tails are wagging, and the Highlanders have no answer to their pace and tempo.

.00: Smith clears to halfway. Dan Hollinshead comes on for Faddes, who does not return from the naughty chair.

.00: The hooter sounds, and the ball is booted into the stands to end a productive half for Robbie fleck’s side. The Highlanders look tired, their hands on heads and hips as they trundle into the dressing room.

The halftime score was Stormers 17 Highlanders 3

.00: PEEEEP! We are back underway in Cape Town.

.00: Smith creates an opportunity out of nothing with his third break of the game. Van Dyk gets back, however, and tackles the scrummy into touch.

.00: The Stormers continue to control proceedings at Newlands. They win another penalty at the ruck, and clear.

.00: Whitelock has been in the ref’s ear all game. He wants a penalty for offsides, but Mr Berry tells him it is not a penalty. It’s a scrum after a knock on in contact.

.00: TRY! Sio Tomkinson barges through De Allende and Johannes Engelbrecht’s tackle to score his side’s first try of the game, his seventh of his career. It came from Shanon Frizell’s break. He was stopped short, the ball recycled quickly by Aaron Smith, who played Tomkinson for the try. 17-8

.00: CONVERSION! Banks adds the extras. Game on! 17-10

.00: TRY! Leyds with some more magic, throwing an outrageous dummy that sent two forwards to the shops. He breaks through the big hole and draws a defender before sending Cobus Wiese away for his second Super Rugby try. 22-10

.00: CONVERSION! Stander will not miss from next to the sticks. 24-10

.00: MISS! Stander misses a long-range penalty. 24-10

.00: Tyrel Lomax takes out Engelbrecht with a body-check.

.00: PENALTY! Jean-Luc du Plessis extends from in front. 27-10

.00: TRY! Ash Dixon’s magic hands put Rob Thompson through a gap. The ball is recycled to Naholo, who crashes over for his 42nd Super Rugby try. 27-15

.00: MISS! The conversion is no good. 27-15

.00: TRY! Game over! De Allende breaks through a huge hole and races from inside his half into the Otago 22. Naholo made a try-saving tackle on Sikhumbuzo Notshe, but the ball was recycled quickly to Jean-Luc du Plessis, on the wing. There was nobody in front of him and he strolled over to score. 32-15

.00: CONVERSION! Du Plessis converts his score. 34-15

.00: This game is over; it’s playing out at a slow pace.

.00: The Highlanders are not giving up, they have been awarded several penalties; this time Johan du Toit is the guilty party.

.00: Josh Dixon crashes over from the lineout. Leyds looks to have held him up. Incredible! Scrum to Aaron Mauger’s side.

.00: The scrum is reset before the hooter sounds. One last play.

.00: TRY! Siate Tokolahi crashes over. 34-20

.00: CONVERSION! Hollinshead ends the game with a two-pointer. 34-22
