Sharks beat Stormers in Cape Town

The final match in Super Rugby Round three is a South African derby clash between the Stormers and the Sharks in Cape Town.

We are waiting for the kick off.

The Stormers kick off and we are underway.

Both teams make a strong and phsyical start to the match. The Stormers knock on so the Sharks have a scrum.

4.00: The Sharks win a penalty for the front row collapsing. They kick for touch.

5.00: Penalty from the line out. They kick for touch.

7.00: The Sharks work the ball down into the Stormers 22 but the Stormers then kick the ball back upfield.

11.00: The Sharks steady the game and press the Stormers into their half. They go through 7 phases but then the Stormers turn the ball over and start their own attack.

15.00: The Stormers have a player down so the game is held up. The TMO also has a look at a low armless tackle on Eben Etzebeth by Daniel du Preez. Penalty to the Stormers.

16.00: Kurt Coleman takes the kick and nails it. The Stormers are on the board.

19.00: Penalty to the Sharks. Joe Pietersen slots the kick. The Sharks are on the board.

23.00: The Stormers go through 7 phases on attack before knocking on. Sharks scrum.

24.00: Stormers possession so far 71%. Stormers wearing the Sharks down. They get the ball into the Sharks 22 but again knock on.

28.00: Cheslin Kolbe chip kicks to the corner, Leolin Zas races ahead and gets the ball and scores beating two Sharks players. TRY!

29.00: Coleman takes the conversion kick from out wide. He nails it.

32.00: Penalty to the Sharks. Pietersen takes the kick but just misses to the left.

35.00: Possession is at 67% and territory at 74% for the Stormers so far. The Sharks go through 7 phases on the attack, 10 phases but they make little ground. On the 11th phase the Stormers turn the ball over and kick upfield.

39.00: The Sharks press the Stormers back into their 22 but the Stormers defence is tight. They turn the ball over and push the Sharks back over the half way line.

The siren sounds and the ball is kicked into touch.

The second half is underway.

43.00: The Sharks get the ball into the Stormers 22. The ball is slow but they press the Stormers back and then win a penalty.

44.00: The Sharks take a quick tap and go, after a couple of phases Cobus Reinach goes for the line – he hits the posts. The TMO is called in to see how he loses the ball. The ball was kicked out of his hands so a penalty TRY is awarded. Siya Kolisi is yellow carded. Schalk Burger is seriously unimpressed. Penalty try gets awarded.

46.00: Pietersen adds the conversion.

49.00: Penalty to the Stormers.  Coleman slices it just past the post.

54.00: The Sharks scrum powers through the Stormers scrum but the ball is kicked into touch.

55.00: The Stormers win the line out and kick upfield. The Sharks counter attack.

56.00: The Stormers bring on   Scarra Ntubeni,  Oli Kebble and Vincent Koch. Stomers also back to 15 players.

57.00: A fight breaks out. The forwards pile in – something happened in the scrum. The TMO is called in for foul play. Replays show that Kyle Cooper elbowing a Stormers player. Scarra Ntubeni reacts to this but as both are wrong the teams get a warning.

59.00: The Sharks have a penalty on the half way line. The kicking tea takes an age to get to Pietersen. He nails it. The Sharks lead.

64.00: There is a break in play for an injury. The game then resumes.

66.00: The Sharks try to attack using the cross kick. The ball goes to ground and is knocked on. Pieter-Steph du Toit comes off for the Stormers could be blood. Stormers scrum.

72.00: The Stormers win a penalty for a tip tackle on Schalk Burger. No card and just a penalty. Coleman lines up and slots the kick to level the scores.

73.00: Attendance is at 31 372 as the game is held up again.

76.00: Out of almost nothing JP Pietersen slices through the Stormers defence. He offloads to Joe Pietersen who races to the line and scores. Or does he ? TMO review coming. The TRY Is awarded.

77.00: JP Pietersen misses the conversion.

79.00: The siren sounds as the Stormers work the ball into the Sharks 22. Can they level or snatch it? The Stormers go through the phases working the ball from side to side.

80.0) The ball goes forward. The Sharks have won.
