Sunwolves beat Bulls in Tokyo

The first Super Rugby match on Saturday in Round 7 is in Tokyo and is the return match between the Sunwolves and the Bulls.

These teams met almost three weeks ago in Pretoria and the Bulls won the match 34-21.

We are waiting for the kick off.

The Sunwolves kick off and we are underway.

3.00: The Bulls win a line out but then the Sunwolves turn the ball over and attack. The Sunwolves go through 7 phases and get the ball to the 5m line.

4.00: The Sunwolves put the Bulls under pressure in front of their posts and the Japanese side are awarded a penalty.

5.00: Hayden Cripps takes a shot at the posts for the penalty but misses.

6.00: The Sunwolves get the ball from the restart and they chip and chase the ball. The Bulls fail to gain control of the ball and the Sunwolves get to it and spread it to  No. 8 Rahboni Warren Vosayaco who charges for the line and scores. TRY!

7.00: Cripps hits the outside of the post with the conversion. It’s been all the Sunwolves so far.

9.00: Penalty to the Sunwolves. Cripps lines up the posts. This one he nails.

11.00: the Bulls win a line out near the half way line and Burger Odendaal slips off a tackle and races for the line and scores. TRY!

13.00: Tian Schoeman takes the conversion kick and nails it.

18.00: The Bulls go through 5 phases in centrefield but struggle to make ground. Schoeman kicks to find space but the ball goes over the dead ball line.

22.00: The Bulls win a scrum and run at the Sunwolves. The Sunwolves slip off a couple of tackles but the Sunwolves manage to slow the attack down, turn the ball over and win a penalty after making up some ground. Cripps takes the penalty shot and nails it.

25.00: Penalty to the Bulls. Schoeman takes the shot and nails it.

27.00: The Bulls build up some momentum and put 7 phases together. Rudy Paige makes a break and the Bulls get a penalty. Schoeman makes a mess of the penalty kick by kicking out over the dead ball line.

31.00: The Sunwolve get trapped in their 22 after Schoeman kicks to the corner and the quick line out is taken. Derek Carpenter however clears the ball calmly into touch.

32.00: The Bulls win the line out and start to gain some momentum but the Sunwolves turn the ball over and then after a couple of phases knock on.

36.00: The Bulls win another line out in their half. They use the maul again and then kick. The Sunwolves get back and secure the ball and run it.

38.00:The Bulls get the ball in space on attack but then knock on as they pass the ball down the line. Jan Serfontein has taken a knock and has to come off for blood.

The Sunwolves attack but the ball is intercepted by the Bulls, Warwick Gelant runs with the ball and chips it ahead and chases but then the ball goes over the dead ball line.

It’s half time.

The Bulls kick off and the second half is underway. Serfontein is back on for the Bulls.

42.00: The Bulls start to look dangerous but the Sunwolves turn the ball over and get the put in for the scrum.

46.00: The Bulls try to kick the ball high for the chase twice and both times the Bulls end up losing possession.

47.00: The Bulls hold on to the ball and start to make some ground. They win a penalty and choose to go for the posts.

48.00: Schoeman slots the penalty shot and the Bulls lead for the first time.

51.00: The Bulls build up some pressure but at the breakdown they concede a penalty. The Sunwolves clear the ball into touch.

53.00: The Sunwolves chip the ball ahead and look dangerous but Gelant gets back to secure the ball and save a try.

55.00: The Sunwolves attack the Bulls tryline, they do get over to score but they are called back for a knock on. Bulls 5m scrum.

56.00: Penalty to the Bulls from the scrum. Schoeman clears the ball into touch.

58.00: The Bulls win another penalty – short arm – from the scrum. Schoeman kicks for touch.

61.00: The Bulls go through 5 phases just inside the Sunwolves half. On the sixth and seventh phase the Sunwolves press them back so the Bulls kick for touch. The Sunwolves get back and kick sending the Bulls back even further.

63.00: The Bulls keep the ball moving through the hands. The ball gets to Travis Ismaiel on the wing and he shoves off three soft tacklers and goes in to score. TRY!

65.00: Schoeman takes the conversion kick from out wide. He nails it.

67.00: The Sunwolves look dangerous as they move ball out wide. Kotaro Matsushima almost gets through but is caught and stopped. Serfontein is yellow carded for a high tackle.

68.00:The Sunwolves take the scrum for the penalty. They take their time going down the line but stretch the Bulls defence and Takaaki Nakazuru gets the overlap (no Serfontein) and scores. TRY!

70.00: Cripps adds the conversion.

73.00: Penalty to the Sunwolves. They will have a shot at the posts.

74.00:  Yu Tamura slots the penalty and the Sunwolves lead.

76.00: The Bulls win a penalty back. Francois Brummer takes the kick but misses.

78.00: The Bulls go through the phases on attack but they concede a penalty. The Sunwolves take the line out and kick for touch.

79.00: The Bulls win the line out against the throw. They will have to attack from deep.

80.00: The Bulls go through phases after the siren. The Sunwolves put in huge tackles and turn the ball over and kick it into touch.

The Sunwolves have won.
