Lions beat Sunwolves in Tokyo




On Saturday Super Rugby will break new ground as Asia’s new Super Rugby franchise the Sunwolves host the Lions in Tokyo Japan.

We are waiting for the kick off.

The Lions kick off, the match is underway. Welcome to Super Rugby Japan!

3.00: The Lions push the Sunwolves back into their 22 but the Sunwolves turn the ball over and kick upfield. The Lions run the ball back but again the Sunwolves turn the ball over and this time they attack and run the ball into the Lions 22.

5.00: After a period of sustained pressure from the Sunwolves they win a penalty in front of the posts. Shota Horie indicates that they will go for posts.

6.00: Tusi Pisi slots the penalty and the Sunwolves lead.

9.00: Penalty to the Lions in front of the posts. Elton Jantjies takes the shot but rushes it and misses.

13.00: Penalty to the Lions from the scrum. Jantjies takes the kick but again he misses.

17.00: The Lions attack the Sunwolves but they lose the ball forward. The Sunwolves kick and chase but the Lions make a mess of getting to the ball and the Sunwolves almost get the ball and score. The Lions get a 22 drop out.

18.00: The Lions set up a driving maul from a line out and push their way over tryline and Robbie Coetzee goes over to score. TRY!

20.00: Jantjies misses the conversion.

23.00: The Sunwolves get the ball in their 22 and run at the Lions. Riaan Viljoen and the Sunwolves make ground but as Yu Tamura slips through  a gap they are called back for obstruction. Sunwolves look dangerous with ball in hand.

27.00: The Sunwolves win their line out. They move the ball down the line and then switchback changing directions and almost catch the Lions out. The Sunwolves continue the attack and get to the Lions 22 line.

29.00: The Sunwolves go through 17 phases on attack. They get to about 10m from the Lions tryline and still they attack. On the 19th phase they are caught offside and concede a penalty.

31.00:Penalty to the Sunwolves. Riaan Viljoen takes the shot but he misses.

34.00: The Lions clear the ball from a ruck and Elton Jantjies slips an inside pass to Courtnall Skosan who races for the line and scores. TRY!

34.00: Jantjies takes the conversion kick and nails this one.

38.00: Penalty to the Sunwolves. Tusi Pisi lines up the kick and nails it.

The whistle goes for half time. It is half time.

The Sunwolves kick off and the second half is underway.

43.00: The Lions get the perfect start as they attack the Sunwolves and Jaco Kriel shoves off a tackler and goes on to score. TRY!

44.00: Jantjies adds the conversion.

49.00: The Lions have a scrum 5m out but the Sunwolves defend the scrum and win a penalty front it. Pisi clears the ball into touch.

53.00: The Sunwolves go on the attack with a chip kick which gets them through. After a number of phases the ball goes into touch but they do look threatening.

59.00: The Sunwolves have the ball on attack again. They get into the Lions 22, they continue to press forward going through the phases and then on the 9th phase they score. TRY to Shota Horie!! The Sunwolves first Super Rugby try goes to Horie but it was a team try.

60.00: Pisi adds the conversion.

63.00: The Sunwolves are back on the attack. They work the ball into the Lions 22 from their own half but then at the breakdown they concede a penalty. Jantjies clears the ball into touch.

64.00: The Lions attack and get the ball to the Sunwolves 5m line. The Sunwolves however turn the ball over and kick deep. Tusi Pisi comes in from the side at the ruck and is yellow carded.

65.00: The Lions use their numbers and attack the Sunwolves with fresh legs and Lionel Mapoe goes over to finish the TRY.

66.00: Jantjies adds the conversion.

69.00: The Sunwolves are awarded a penalty in their half and they run the ball. They catch the Lions sleeping at first but then the Lions scramble and get back, stop the attack, turn the ball over and kick upfield.

74.00: The Sunwolves win a penalty in centre-field so they kick for touch and set up a line out on the Lions 22m line.

75.00: Tusi Pisi comes back on from the Sin bin.

79.00: The Lions work the ball down to the Sunwolves 5m line. There is a knock on so there will be a scrum.

80.00: The siren sounds. The Lions win the scrum and they go for the line. They go over but they are held up.

Thats it. The Lions have won.
