Last season’s Super Rugby losing finalists the Lions have been given a boost as Springbok wing Courtnall Skosan could be back from injury sooner than expected.

Skosan was injured in a “freak accident” in training a couple of weeks ago and was expected to miss the whole of the Super Rugby season.

The Lions announced that he had torn the ACL in his knee which usually rules a player out for up to six months.

Due to the timelines Skosan was expected to miss the whole of the Super Rugby season including the Springbok’s series in June against England.

However reports have surfaced which say that he could now return as early as April which would also bring him back into contention for the Springboks matches.

Coach Swys de Bruin included Skosan in his Super Rugby squad and has now revealed that the winger could be back in 9-10 weeks.

Skosan’s return would be a boost for the Lions as their other Bok winger Ruan Combrinck is also out with injury.

Combrinck is expected back around the same time as Skosan at the end of April.

“We’re blessed as far as injuries are concerned, it looks like the guys will return quickly. Even Courtnall’s one, which they said was six months, is now two and a half months. So I’m happy, it’s looking positive,” De Bruin told SuperSport.

“We’re still waiting for Combrinck though, he will be middle April, hopefully before the tour.”

Skosan confirmed the injury on his YouTube channel but said he did not know when he would return.

“I am injured, I did hurt my knee in training and I don’t know how long I will be out for,” he said in a video.

“I’m really looking forward to the recovery process and my wife is really looking after me well.

“I just want to say thanks for all the messages of encouragement wishing me a speedy recovery. This is part of the game, getting injuries, getting hurt. You know when you sign up for rugby, when you sign that contract anything can happen. I always say it doesn’t matter how hard life hits you, whatever you are doing in life, don’t forget to look up.

“It is just one of those things.”
