Super Rugby Trans Tasman previews Rd.4

on

Last week the Reds delivered the upset of the weekend by beating the Chiefs. They will be going all out this weekend to deliver a second win by beating the Blues.

Before that match kicks off though the Crusaders host the Western Force at home in Christchurch.

On Saturday the Highlanders host the Waratahs, the Brumbies host the Hurricanes and the Chiefs will host the Rebels in Sydney on Sunday.

This Chiefs v Rebels was originally scheduled for Saturday 5 June in Hamilton but is now scheduled to be played in Sydney on Sunday 6 June. This follows the extension of the Melbourne COVID-19 lockdown period as announced by the Victorian state government (Wednesday 2 June) and the uncertainty over international travel between Victoria and New Zealand. The existing travel pause implemented by the New Zealand government captures the Rebels playing group.

It had been hoped that the match could be played in Hamilton, New Zealand, a day later than originally scheduled, on Sunday 6 June, to allow the Rebels to travel to New Zealand from Australia if the various COVID-19 protocols had been lifted. However, the extension of the quarantine restrictions by the Victoria state government and the ongoing uncertainty around the Rebel’s ability to fly to New Zealand has made this impossible.

The match, in line with SANZAR’s contingency planning, will therefore kick-off at Leichhardt Oval, Sydney at 15:00 local time on Sunday 6 June.

In the standings the Blues are still the Trans Tasman leaders and they are closely followed by the Hurricanes who also have 15 points but are separated by points difference.

The Crusaders are still third. They need big wins against the Force and next week the Rebels. The Blues have the Force and the Hurricanes have the Reds next week and it looks like the results of these matches will decide who contests the Trans Tasman final on 19 June.
