A Dunedin District Court judge has sentenced Highlanders winger Lucky Mulipola to 180 hours’ community work and ordered him to pay NZ $5000 ($3,800) emotional damages to the victim in reparation.

The judge told Mulipola that his assault could have killed the victim who’s name has not been released.

Yesterday Mulipola was sentenced for a one-punch assault on a man in the Octagon on April 5 and Judge Paul Kellar said the consequences of just one punch could be “very severe indeed. Sometimes people die from even a single punch.”

Otago Rugby Football Union chief executive Richard Reid told the NZ Herald that he could not comment on whether Mulipola would face further disciplinary action from the Union.
