The former Leopard and Cheetahs prop Ronnie Uys, will make his run on debut for the Pumas when they meet the Bulldogs in a First Division rugby match in East London on Saturday afternoon.

The Pumas have been dealt a hefty blow with both their captain Corne Steenkamp and his partner-in-crime, Jaco Bouwer, not available for this match.

Both these fetchers had to be replaced and hooker Torsten van Jaarsveld finds him on the side of the scrum in the number six jersey. Steenkamp tore ligaments in his knee and could miss the biggest part of the Curie Cup season but Bouwer should return to action next weekend.

Uys replaces Dawie Steyn at loosehead prop with the latter getting an opportunity to rest. The former SA Under 21 flanker Martin Sithole, and Van Jaarsveld, replace Bouwer and Steenkamp.

The only change to the backline is the inclusion of Shaun Venter at inside centre for Hyron Thysse.

The Pumas have scored more tries than any other team in the competition with 19, with Braam Pretorius the competition’s top scorer with 51 and Allister Ketteldas the top try-scorer with five and Venter on four.

Pumas:

MJ Mentz; Braam Pretorius, Tiaan Marx, Shaun Venter, Allister Ketteldas; Valentine van Wyk, Jacques Coetzee Doppies le Roux, Martin Sithole, Torsten van Jaarsveld, Marius Coetzer, Luhan Velthuizen, Ashley Buys, Hannes Franklin, Ronnie Uys.

Reserves: Brett Nel, Dee-Jay Terblanche, Johan van Heerden, Jacques Verwey, Hendrik van der Nest, Ashwin Scott, Du-Wayne Smart.
