The Valke have included Zimbabwean international flyer, Wensley Mbanje, in their rugby team to face the Griffons in Kempton Park on Saturday, with a third of the team making their Currie Cup debuts.

Mbanje is a flyer who has represented the Union Rugby Club in the south of Johannesburg with distinction.

Two former club mates, hooker BB Hefer and the young tighthead, Louwtjie Grobler, will also make their Currie Cup debuts.

Valke coach Yagia Sakier, has made five changes to the team that lost their compulsory friendly against Griquas a fortnight ago.

The Valke take the field with a brand new halfback pairing in Gido Horn and Ryno Hendriks, who replace the injured Petri Kunz (knee) and Haas Snyman (shoulder).

In the forwards former Pukke lock, Hendrik Knoetze, starts ahead of local boy Martin Lombard and the young Grobler replaces the ex-Witsie, Jacques George.

“The team is full of wannabees that want to make their mark on the bigger stage and this is their opportunity,” says coach Sakier.

Fullback Tsepo Kokoali and outside centre Franco Booysen, are the star backs in the team and will have to make things happen and comfort the youngsters at provincial level.

Loose-forwards, captain Bovril de Bruin and Reg Muller, are talented campaigners that will give the Griffons a run for their money.
