Cheetahs acquisition Ryno van der Merwe will miss Saturdays Currie Cup First Division match for the SWD Eagles against the Pumas in George because of a shoulder injury.

He will be replaced at No 8 by former Matie stalwart Doppies le Roux. This was the only change made by coach Phil Pretorius to his starting line-up from the side which beat the Border Bulldogs last weekend.

Van der Merwe’s experience will be missed but Le Roux is a rock-hard player who loves to fight fire with fire.

Another five pointer will put the Eagles right back on track for a semi-final berth, but the Pumas will fight hard after their defeat against the unbeaten Leopards last weekend. Meanwhile, Western Province loan player Ricardo Croy said he is happy to have made the move to George.

“I enjoy every minute of it here. I have freedom to do my own thing and I just love playing for the Eagles,” he said.

The Eagles team is:

Bobby Joubert, Baldwin McBean, Valentine van Wyk, Izak Saayman, Allister Kettledas, Ricardo Croy, Hendrik van der Nest, Doppies le Roux, Devon Raubenheimer, Victor Joubert, Henry Grimes, Theo Bezuidenhout, Wickus Harmse, Hannes Franklin (k), Tiaan de Kock.

Replacements: Pierre Munroe, Ashley Buys, Jacques Engelbrecht, Tertius Carse, Ambrose Barends, Mark Esterhuizen, Ricardo Pietersen.
