The Hurricanes have named their team to face the Highlanders in tomorrows opening Super 14 encounter.

Scott Waldrom is one of four changes to the side that started last week against the Chiefs. All Black prop Neemia Tialata has been ruled out with a hamstring injury and fullback Cory Jane is no in contention because of a hip injury.

Full Back Corey Jane has been replaced by Shannon Paku while Tim Fairbrother comes in at tighthead for Neemia Tialata.

Tamati Ellison comes in as he is fit again and starts ahead of Tane Tu’ipulotu.

Chris Masoe hurt his back on Tuesday lifting weights so his injury has given Scott Waldrom his first start in the Super 14.

Waldrom is understandably excited about starting tomorrow and if there was any complacency at all, his brother Thomas would knock it out of him.

Thomas knows better than anyone that starting chances are few and far between when Masoe, Jerry Collins and Rodney So’oialo are the loose forwards ahead of you.

“It’s not often those three break down so it’s definitely a big chance,” Scott Waldrom said to Rugbyheaven.

“It’s my first start in the Super 14 and a must win for us – and for them because they are better than their results show.”

Hurricanes:

15 Shannon Paku, 14 Ma’a Nonu, 13 Conrad Smith, 12 Tamati Ellison, 11 Hosea Gear, 10 Jimmy Gopperth, 9 Piri Weepu, 8 Rodney So’oialo (c), 7 Scott Waldrom, 6 Jerry Collins, 5 Jason Eaton, 4 Craig Clarke, 3 Tim Fairbrother, 2 Andrew Hore, 1 John Schwalger.
Reserves: 16 Hikawera Elliot, 17 Jacob Ellison, 18 Jeremy Thrush, 19 Thomas Waldrom, 20 Alby Mathewson, 21 Willie Ripia, 22 Tane Tu’ipulotu.
