Versatile CA Brumbies forward Adam Wallace-Harrison will start in his third different position this season after being named at Number 8 for injured back-rower Jone Tawake for Saturday night’s clash with the Cheetahs at Canberra Stadium.

Tawake will be sidelined for between four and ten weeks after suffering a second dislocation on his injured finger during training last week.

The Fijian giant dislocated the ring finger on his right hand during the second half of the Brumbies loss to the Blues in Auckland in Week Six.

Tawake will undergo surgery on the finger next Wednesday (12 April) and is out of the squad indefintely.

“I’m very disappointed that I’m injured because I thought my form up until now had been pretty good,” said Tawake.

“I’d trained hard through the pre-season to get myself fit and I’ve been happy with my season so far. It’s a shame to get injured but I’m trying to stay positive and hopefully I’ll be able to come back in time for the finals,” he said.

Wallace-Harrison has started matches at lock and blindside flanker already this season and is excited about the prospect of handling the football more often from the back of the scrum.

“It’s going to be a bit different. Although I’ve played (Number 8) at club level I’ve never done it at Super 14 level,” he said.

“I don’t mind playing the different roles so I’m pretty excited about getting the chance to play at eight this weekend.”

Wallace-Harrison has played in all seven of the Brumbies matches so far this season and has often exploited tired defences at the back end of matches with his powerful running game.

The Perth-born forward feels that he is suited to the Number 8 role.

“The role the number 8 is playing this year; he’s getting his hands on the ball a lot more often so I’m looking forward to getting a few more running opportunities this Saturday night,” he said.

The Brumbies will also welcome back star centre Matt Giteau from a knee injury for Saturday night’s clash, while Jeremy Paul will return to the starting lineup for the first time since the season-opening round.

CA Brumbies Coach Laurie Fisher will name the remainder of his team on Thursday.
