Waratahs close to signing former NRL star Locke

Sydney based Super Rugby franchise the Waratahs are understood to be close to signing former Warriors fullback Kevin Locke.

New Zealand Rugby League fullback Locke says that there is “certainly some truth” to the rumours that he is close to signing for the Waratahs.

However a spokesman for the Waratahs has said that they are not in talks with Locke.

Locke hasn’t played since a difficult stint in England which was ended by a shoulder injury and off field issues.

The 27-year-old says that now he is returning to fitness playing the 15 man game could be an attractive option.

“I’d love to play rugby if the opportunity presented itself”, Locke told Stuff.

“Obviously I played 15’s all through school so it is something I am familiar with, definitely.”

The Waratahs have former Warrior Sam Lousi in their squad and Israel Folau has enjoyed great success playing rugby union.

“I’m just going to focus on getting myself right so that when my name finally does hit the dotted line, I’ll be good to go,” Locke said.

Locke does however say that ultimately he still wants to return to playing in the NRL

“My heart still lies with playing NRL again, for sure”, he said.

“Hopefully with the way things are tracking I can get an opportunity but that’s up to my manager. I just want to keep my head down, focus on my rehab and let him deal with that side of things.”
