Waratahs looking for Wallaby power

Waratahs coach Ewen McKenzie has revealed that two of his injured Wallaby forwards are in line to make a return to action when they take on the Force on Friday.

Number eight David Lyons scored a try in a 30 minute run for the Waratahs Academy side on Saturday after they thumped Victoria 46-0.

Fellow Wallaby, prop Matt Dunning is also set for a return.

McKenzie is confident that Dunning will be even stronger than before when he returns.

“He’s looking very good,” the coach told Australia’s Daily Telegraph.

“He’s done a personal best bench press in the gym and he’s dropped his skin folds.

“He’s leaner and stronger than before he got injured.”

Key second-rower Dan Vickerman could be back by the end of April while his regular locking partner Al Kanaar has suffered a massive fitness setback, losing 15kg while struggling with a post-operative knee infection.

McKenzie confirmed there would be some renewed thought concerning the outside backs.

“We’ll look at that. We’re looking at all sorts of things at the moment. We’ve come up with a couple of losses so we’re re-examining.”
