Waratahs move venue for Blues clash

Super Rugby administrators Sanzaar have approved a request from the NSW Waratahs to change the venue and kick-off time for its match against the Blues on Saturday 5 May.

The change to the 2018 Super Rugby match schedule was necessary due the possibility that Allianz Stadium would host the Football A League Grand Final on that day.

The match will now kick-off at 1945 [Sydney time] at Brookvale Oval in Manly, Sydney. Previously the match was due to kick-off at 1500 at Allianz Stadium, Sydney. The changes have been done in consultation with the Blues, host broadcaster Foxsports and grass roots rugby.

SANZAAR CEO Andy Marinos said, “Sydney’s busy sporting calendar has unfortunately necessitated this move but the Waratahs have made a sensible decision in taking the match into one of its rugby strongholds in the Northern Beaches. The change of kick-off time is sympathetic to the requirements of grass roots rugby and should also ensure a healthy turn out at the Waratahs versus Blues match later in the day.”

NSW Rugby and NSW Waratahs CEO Andrew Hore said, “It underlines what can be achieved when we all work together for the greater good of the game and illustrates what’s possible when we are unified. Saturday afternoon footy is traditionally the showcase window for our community game and by recognising that and working with our key partners we have been able to ensure that all levels of the game is a winner.”

“It’s the first weekend of First XV schools rugby and there are three Shute Shield games in the area. It is important that we support these events in the first instance and then our community can also support the State team. By keeping clear windows we are able to achieve both,” added Hore.
