The HSBC Waratahs successful season on the field has been reflected off of it with record television figures being achieved during the 2008 Super 14.

Fox Sports Super 14 ratings have increased by more than 19% this year, reflecting the improved performance of the Waratahs whose matches regularly topped the week’s pay television ratings.

More than 2.35 million viewers watched Fox Sports live coverage of the Super 14 regular season, with audiences for matches played in Australia averaging more than 100,000 viewers.

‘We are delighted with ratings results for this year’s Super 14 competition and are confident, with the Waratahs earning the right to host a home semi-final, that solid ratings results will continue throughout the finals,’ said Tony Sinclair, Director of Fox Sports channels.

Waratahs games featured in four of the top five matches this season, with the Round 3 clash with the Highlanders producing the competition’s best regular season result with an average audience of 185,000 viewers.

‘The pay television sports market is extremely competitive in Australia and the Waratahs brand has proven itself to be one of the most successful in this field during 2008,’ said Jim L’Estrange, NSWRU Chief Executive Officer.

‘Obviously we love getting as many people as possible to our home games, however we realise for a variety of reasons not everyone can always attend but it’s clear they’re still tuning in by watching the team live on Fox Sports.’

This Saturday’s Super 14 Semifinals will screen LIVE on Fox Sports 3 with the Crusaders-Hurricanes clash kicking off at 5:30pm in Australia.

The Waratahs and Sharks kick off at 8:00pm with the pre-match show beginning at 7:30pm (Aus time).
