1.00: PEEEP! We are underway at Leichhardt Oval in Sydney.

3.00: Waratahs, despite the win over the Crusaders last weekend, are underdogs again this week.

4.00: NO YELLOW CARD, WHAT IS GOING ON? Asafo Aumua hits Alex Newsome high, so Edmed kicks to the corner, but the hooker stays on the field.

5.00: PENALTY! Tane Edmed opens the scoring. 3-0

6.00: Izaia Perese’s linebreak kick-started another sustained attack inside the Hurricanes’ 22. A knock on by Jamie Booth, trying to rip the ball out of an NSW hand, gives the Waratahs an attacking scrum.

8.00: A bulldozing Tahs’ scrum ends with another penalty inside the Canes’ 22. Edmed will kick to touch – here we go!

10.00: Superb maul defence by the Kiwis to stop the drive immediately; however, the visitors give away another penalty. Jake Gordon opts for a scrum this time. Interesting tactics in the last few minutes.

12.00: NO TRY! Three penalties and a free-kick for the home team during this series ended with Dylan Pietsch taking Edmed’s flat skip-pass to slide over untouched. The would-be try came from sustained set-piece pressure as the NSW scrum walked the Canes backwards. however, Gordon knocked the ball back into the scrum for a Hurricanes put in. 3-0

14.00: Canes clear the danger; they really got out of jail there.

16.00: The Waratahs have had 96% territory and 91% possession – Wow!

17.00: Another penalty from a scrum after Edmed combined with Lalakai Foketi to kick-start another attack.

18.00: No try for Gordon, who is pulled over the line. I’ve never heard of that before. Waratahs get another scrum on the Canes’ line. Coleman’s side need to make their superiority count because the Kiwis will get back into this contest.

19.00: TRY! Another penalty advantage is not needed because Rahboni Warren-Vosayaco controls the ball at the back of the scrum as it wheels left. The number eight bides his time before picking up and diving over the chalk. 8-0

20.00: CONVERSION! Edmed slots the kick. 10-0

22.00: The home team’s front row has been as dominant as any since South Africa dismantled England in the 2019 Rugby World Cup Final in Tokyo. The Tahs’ lineout has also been good, just not their driving maul, so much.

24.00: Du’Plessis Kirifi has the ball stripped out of his hands as he attempted to score under the posts. Angus Bell collected the loose ball, but it would not have been a try anyway: goal-line drop out.

25.00: An Aidan Morgan knock-on leads to another scrum for the hosts. Jason Holland’s side cannot get any momentum going.

28.00: It’s a bit stop-start now.

31.00: The Waratahs’ scrum is still causing a scene, it has won five penalties so far.

34.00: Hurricanes go close before losing the ball in contact.

36.00: TRY! Charlie Gamble unleashed Perese down the sideline. Perese cut inside, and as the centre was hit by Jamie Booth and Josh Moorby, he made an audacious back-door offload to the supporting Pietsch to score. 15-0

37.00: MISS! The kick is wide. 15-0

39.00: Marky Mark wins a penalty after Salesi Rayasi was isolated.

41.00: Good defending by the hosts to stop a 10-phase attack near their 22. Hurricanes do have a penalty, however.

43.00: MISS! Jordy Barrett hits the post, the basll bounces out and is dropped by the Tahs, but the ref calls for drinks.

The halftime score was NSW Waratahs 15 Hurricanes 0

41.00: PEEEP! We are back underway down under.

42.00: TRY! Tevita Mafileo crashes over from close range to get the visitors on the board. 15-5

43.00: CONVERSION! Barrett makes no mistake. 15-5

46.00: Some good defending by the visitors leads to a turnover.

48.00: A momentum shift in the front row as the Hurricanes finally win a scrum penalty of their own.

50.00: Pietsch’s weaving run set up an attack outside the Canes’ 22. The Tahs went through the phases before conceding a ruck penalty.

53.00: Barrett boots a penalty to the flag.

55.00: Another infringement on their line leads to the ref warning Gordon.

56.00: PENALTY! Barrett slots the kick. 15-10

59.00: TRY! Ardie Savea sends Bailyn Sullivan away to level. 15-15

61.00: MISS! Barrett misses from wide. 15-15

64.00: It’s all Canes at the minute, who look the fitter team.

66.00: Dane Coles’ poor throw is a let-off for the Aussies.

68.00: PENALTY! Perese leaves the field, but Ben Donaldson edges his side in front. 18-15

72.00: It’s scrappy now as the teams tire. The Tahs have a sustained attack inside the 22 but a knock-on kills the attack, and lets the visitors off the hook. That could/will be costly!

75.00: TRY! Savea is over! 18-20

76.00: CONVERSION! Barrett converts. 18-22

77.00: RED CARD! Hurricanes are up a man after Barrett is taken out in the air by Paddy Ryan. 18-22

79.00: Barrett loses the ball forward for one last scrum to the Tahs.

80.00: Jed Holloway’s goal-line goes out behind the dead-ball line; that is poor from the lock: What was he thinking. Scrum to the visitors on the line.

82.00: The ball is booted out, Canes get the dub.
