Hurricanes beat Waratahs in Sydney

The Waratahs have played the Hurricanes 22 times in Super rugby since 1996 and they have won 10 matches and lost 12.

There have been no draws between the sides.

  • The Hurricanes have won four of their last six games against the Waratahs, including their last two on the bounce; the last time they won more was a three-game stretch in 2005/06.

36.00: The conversion is added by Fletcher Smith and the Hurricanes lead.

38.00: Penalty to the Waratahs against Jordie Barrett for tackling a player in the air. Foley lines up the kick and nails it. Waratahs lead again.

40.00: The siren sounds for half time. The ball goes dead so it is half time. Just the one try in the opening half.

41.00: The Hurricanes make a strong start by attacking the Waratahs in their half but they concede a penalty.

42.00: The Waratahs break out from inside their half. The ball is sent wide to Israel Folau who makes lots of ground and then offloads to Curtis Rona who scores in the corner – TRY!

43.00: Foley takes the conversion and he edges it past the posts.

48.00: The Waratahs look to run the ball down the wing but the ball is lost forward in the tackle. The Hurricanes win a scrum but then the Hurricanes are given a free kick from the scrum for early engagement.

50.00: Penalty against the Waratahs. The Waratahs get “a warning that the next one will put them back on a warning”.

51.00: Barrett takes the penalty kick and nails it.

57.00: Penalty against the Waratahs from the scrum. “Not holding your weight”. The Hurricanes clear the ball into touch.

61.00: Rob Simmons comes off for the Waratahs. The Hurricanes win a line out on the Waratahs 22. They go through four phases and get into the Tahs 22 but then the home side turn the ball over.

64.00: Penalty to the Hurricanes for not releasing. Barrett sends the ball well downfield setting up a line out in the Tahs 22.

66.00: The Hurricanes win the line out. They go through six phases and they go over the line and score. TRY. But wait the TMO will check it. Try is disallowed for a elbow charge on Hooper in the build up. No try. The Waratahs clear the ball into touch.

69.00: The Hurricanes attack down the wing again. Big Ben Lam crashes over in the corner and slams the ball down. The TMO will check the try. The replay reveals he is in touch – no try.

71.00: The Hurricanes have a scrum inside the Waratahs 22. It collapses and has to be reset.

73.00: The Hurricanes get the advantage from the scrum – collapsing. When the ball goes into touch they are called back and they go for the line out -5m out.

74.00: The Hurricanes win the line out and Du’Plessis Kirifi slices through and then powers over the line !! TRY! 

75.00: Barrett takes the conversion kick from in front. He nails it. Hurricanes lead.

77.00: The Waratahs get a scrum in the Hurricanes half. The Waratahs deliver a massive scrum which earns them a penalty. Foley will have a shot at the posts.

78.00: Foley takes the shot and nails it. He misses!

79.00: The siren sounds – the Waratahs have the ball but they are deep in their half.

82.00: The Waratahs try to attack but get pushed back to their tryline. The Waratahs turn the ball over and win a penalty. Foley kicks to the half way line for the line out.

83.00: The Hurricanes tackle a jumper in the air so the Waratahs have another chance. They kick for touch again.

The Hurricanes snatch the line out ball and put it into touch. The Hurricanes have won.
