The Waratahs have not beaten a South African team this season.

Match detail

We are waiting for the kick-off.

Beep! We are underway.

.00: Already, the game starts with three reset scrums after the home team knocked on.

.00: The Waratahs attack from deep inside their half. Makazole Mapimpi almost scores after a kick through. Lineout to the hosts.

.00: Penalty to the Tahs. They kick to touch and will have the lineout on the Kings’ 5.

.00: The visitors win the ball and attack from their 22, however, they lose the ball forward after a poor pass.

.00: Waratahs win another penalty at the ruck. Bernard Foley kicks to touch.

.00: More reset scrums.

.00: TRY Taqele Naiyaravoro! Rohann Hoffmann goes to the TMO to check grounding and a foot in touch. It’s good. It came from Foley’s cross-field kick. Israel Folau beat Masixole Banda in the air and the wing gathered and dotted down in the corner.

.00: Foley can’t add the extras but the hosts lead 5-0.

.00: The Kings win a penalty at the breakdown and kick to touch.

.00: Lionel Cronje, who played for the Waratahs, attempts a penalty. His kick is wide and the flyhalf is livid with himself.

.00: The Waratahs win a penalty, kick to the corner and then lose the ball at the following ruck after attempting a rolling maul. A scrappy game in Sydney.

.00: TRY Rob Horn! Folau breaks from his 22. The fullback charged downfield and popped inside to Foley, who offloaded to the supporting Horne. The centre still had to beat the cover defence and does so, with a goose step. Great try.

.00: Foley extends the lead.

.00: Will Skelton tries a floated pass to Jake Gordon but it’s almost intercepted. The Tahs are playing loose and it might come back to haunt them.

.00: Scrum penalty for collapsing. The home team’s front row struggling there.

.00: The Kings win a penalty and attack. The ref tells Hooper to speak to his team about a cynical play.

.00: The Kings go through several phases and lose the ball. However, the ref is calling the TMO for a high tackle by Michael Hooper. This might be yellow.

.00: Hooper is not getting a card because it was not malicious and the Kings’ player was standing, so a maul. But, Ned Hanigan is sent to the bin for kicking the ball out of a ruck. Hmmm. Kings kick for a lineout.

.00: TRY Cam Clark! Oh no! Kings rumble the ball forward and are stopped on the line. Louis Schreuder throws a loose pass and Foley intercepts. Had he not, the numbers out wide would have led to a try. Foley passed to the sevens specialist and Clark had too much pace to be caught and goes over for his first Super Rugby try.

.00: Foley misses the conversion.

.00: TRY Justin Forwood! The big man busts over the defenders to score. It all started with Foley’s charged down the clearance. The loose ball was gathered by the Kings and after two phases, Forwood barged over. The prop gives a little bow-and-arrow celebration.

.00: Cronje adds the extras.

.00: TMO being consulted for a grounding by the Kings. Jake Gordon collects Cronje’s grubber but loses the ball when he tries to get up. It comes off Folau’s boot and Wandile Mjekevu dots down.

.00: It’s accidental offside for kicking the ball into the player in front of Mjekevu. Cronje is not happy and lets the referee know his thoughts. Scrum to the Kings and they concede a penalty. Waratahs survive two major scares.

It is the first time the Waratahs have led at the break all season.

The half time score was Waratahs 17 Southern Kings 7

BEEP! We are back for the second half.

.00: Lionel Cronje makes a break down the sideline but, his pass is lost by Makazole Mapimpi. the Kings come again and nearly get over in the corner.

.00: Great tackle by Folau. Lineout to the Tahs on their goal line.

.00: The PE men come again. They win another penalty at the ruck and Cronje kicks to the 5.

.00: Kings go close but will have a scrum. Waratahs under pressure.

.00: TRY Masixole Banda! Good scrum from the Kings. Cronje drifts left and sends a long pass to the fullback, who collects and dives over to reduce the deficit.

.00: Cronje can’t add the sideline conversion.

.00: Both teams sending on the substitutes.

.00: YELLOW CARD Chris Cloete! The flanker hit the Waratahs’ attacker high and ridden him to the ground. Fair call.

.00: The hosts attack, win a penalty, go quick and lose the ball forward.

.00: The game is stalling as the subs come on.

.00: Scrum penalty to the Kings. Their front row is starting to get the better of the Aussies. Cronje kicks to touch.

.00: From the lineout, the visitors go wide and knock on by Andisa Ntsila. Poor from the No 8. Scrum Tahs.

.00: Moving into the final quarter. Both teams handling has been poor. That is the tenth knock on by the home team. Scrum to the South Africans.

.00: The Kings are taking it to the Tahs. They fancy their set piece and it’s working. They’re getting go-forward ball in the scrum and dominating the mauls.

.00: Penalty. Cronje chips it into touch and the Kings will look to set up another rolling maul from five metres out.

.00: TRY Michael Willemse! The Port Elizabeth side tie the scores. From the lineout, the Kings set up their maul and the hooker finishes a powerful drive. The Waratahs’ forwards were obliterated there.

.00: Cronje puts his team ahead. The Kings have scored 19 unanswered points.

.00: Another big scrum by the visitors. Andisa Ntsila picks up at the back and breaks forward.

.00: The ball is lost and then the Kings win a penalty.

.00: The penalty hits the left-hand post. The Waratahs gather the ball but Jed Holloway, is pushed back over his line and the Kings will get a five-metre scrum. Great work from Cloete.

.00: BIG SCRUM and they win another penalty. That was close to a penalty try.

.00: PENALTY TRY! The Waratahs’ scrum disintegrates. That is huge for the visitors.

.00: TRY Taqele Naiyaravoro! The wing gets his second but, it’s too little, too late.
