The Waratahs host South Africa’s Stormers in their opening match and although they will have home advantage they host a team who have already played a match and will not be as rusty.

The Stormers opened their Super Rugby campaign against the Jaguares in Cape Town but have now had to travel to Sydney where they have not won since 2015.

  • The Waratahs have won three of their last four games against the Stormers, including their last meeting, but had won just one of six meetings (D1, L4) before that span.
  • The Waratahs have lost their last four games in succession, the last time they went longer without a win was a nine-game drought (L9) across 2012 and 2013.
  • The Stormers have won their last four games in Australia, never before have they won more in succession in the country.
  • The Waratahs were the least effective defensive outfit in 2017, missing one-in-five tackles for the campaign.
  • Cheslin Kolbe has scored four tries in his last two games away from home for the Stormers, including a hat-trick against the Cheetahs in Round 15 last season.
