A French Rugby web site (RugbyRama) is quoting Midi Olympique  who say that Wallaby and Waratah Phil Waugh could be headed for French club Clermont Auvergne next season to play in the Top 14.

They say that negotiations between the club and the player are at an advanced stage.

Should Waugh leave Australia it would be a blow for the Wallabies as Waugh has been somewhat of a mainstay for them racking up 66 caps so far.

Waugh is widely regarded as one of the Australia’s leading flankers, and current co-captain with Stirling Mortlock of the Wallabies.

Despite being named Captain of the Waratahs in 2007, he was injured for most of the Super 14 season with Adam Freier deputising in his absence.

Waugh is 28 and nearing the end of his career so one can’t blame him for making profitable trip to the Northern Hemisphere.
